Hello, I'm a admin at my job and i'm trying to make it so that all the users are logged off by 11:30 PM at night, but I was wondering if i could write a script that could do that over the network or if i could do a script by GPO?

Any other options are welcomed

Thanks!!!

If using Windows Server, why not simply set Logon hours for each user as per the requirements? They will either be warned or disconnected as per your security settings.

Well we don't want to set it by only hours, we need it to be specifically 11:30 PM so that we can run our backup.

Then you may want to look into this script that could be executed before the backup starts (as a pre backup task): http://windowsitpro.com/article/ar [...] -time.html

Yeah but thats my problem, I was thinking about making a script for logon as group policy that would be something like this
@ECHO
at 10:41 /every:M,T,W,Th,F cmd\ shutdown-l

I'm really new at this

AFIK you can use hours only, e.g., 10:00 PM. You can't use 10:41 PM. However it's rather easy to launch a script that will logoff users when the backup starts. I don't know what backup software you use and why you need to logoff users, but it should be able to run the script before the backup starts.

We run Symantec Backup Exec 10D and the problem we have been having lately is that when it backups it doesn't backup our proprietary software that does everything for our company and the reason for that is because not all users log out. Now I've tried setting up login times but we also have salesmen that work late at night and since it only does hourly increments it won't work out so well

Also I'm a intern and networking isn't my major, so i'm really not familiar with server 2003
If you need any more info just ask :)

This has nothing to do with networking. If the backup fails because the files are locked, why not install the Open File Agent (not free) or start the Volume Shadow Copy service (free)?
