I recently built a new pc and installed xp pro 64 bit. I found out that my wireless card is not compatible with 64 bit OS (believe me I tried). So I intend to connect a router to the modem and then one line to my new pc and another to airport express for wireless on the laptop. I have done this before. But I would like to know what you all think. Also, If I use cat5e cable will it jive with all of this on an older (3-4yr old D link)router?

Cat5e will work just fine. It's all wired the same.
You should be fine with the way you have it. You might turn off dhcp on the airport if you want everything on the same network address range.
