Forum Graphic & Displays : ATI - [Solved] HD 5770 Reviews...X-Fired as well... and HD 5750 ...
10/13/09 - Added more reviews, see my post below
Here's a HD 5770 review from Guru 3D that is quite extensive. Includes both single and X-Fired HD 5770 for those interested...
http://www.guru3d.com/article/rade [...] view-test/
X-Fire performance is pretty good for those interested. All games tested at 2560 x 1600 shows playable frame rate with the exception of Crysis: Warhead (no surprise there). Far Cry 2 is somewhat low at 35FPS.
However, I'm more interested in single card performance at a more pedestrian gaming resolution of 1920 x 1200. The HD 5770 can basically hold it's own against the the HD 4870 or beat that card with the exception of Call of Duty 5: Modern Warfare (~ 15% performance lag), Mass Effects (~ 18% performance lag) and Fallout 3 (~ 7% performance lag).
While Guru3D did overclock the HD 5770 (Core 950MHz, Shade 950MHz, and Memory 5,620MHz) , the only game tested was Crysis:Warhead. Across all resolutions, the gain was only 2FPS; BTW the HD 5770 tied the HD 4870 in this benchmark at standard clock speed.
Interesting performance for a ~ $160 video card. However, it is priced at higher than what a HD 4870 currently sells for; lowest prices is ~ $130. The HD 4890 costs ~ $30 more than the HD 5770 and will consistently beat the new DX11 card in every game except "Anno 1404 - Dawn of Discovery".
In my opinion gamers should by this card over the HD 4870 if:
1. You want HD 4870-ish performance, but do not want to be forced to replace a relatively weak PSU.
2. You are upgrading to a faster cards and you want DX11.

Yes NDA has lifted because today is Oct. 13th in most parts of the world. Currently the exceptions are US mountain-time and the west coast (maybe Hawaii too).

Is there a review of 5750 512MB?
I think AMD is going for the money here.
1. The chip is comparably smaller than 4870 (using 40nm)
2. The 128 bit memory bus will make the card cheap to produce (so better margins)
3. The DX11 will make it tempting to lot of people to buy
I still think they are going little greedy here. a $140-$149 would make that a perfect buy. May be in the 1-2 months we will see that adjustment
They can always adjust, considering how the cards sell in the next few weeks, thats their advantage to be first in the market with new technology and they are definitely going for profit here
What they need to do first is clear their 4870 stock. If they had launched 5770 for $140-150, would anybody be buying 4870? I think it is logical and they should drop the price once the stock clears.
Yeah, I'm guessing we will see lower prices for the HD 4850 and HD 4870 video cards in the next couple of months just to kill of what's in stock.

for those of you skeptical of the price, remember that this chip gives the same perf of prev gen at half the power consumption

Lies.
..
And slander.
@OP, I'm disappointed in the 5770. I expected it to be inbetween GTX260/4870 and the 4890. Yet ATI just couldn't go with a 192-bit or lower the price. True, the 4870 needs to be cleared off the shelves, but once that happens I hope the card will go to $140 with $120-AR.
But then, the 4890's will still be selling, so meh. They're ~$170 now, with $185 for an AM cooling (toxic, etc). If ATI stops producing those, then we'll be missing a sub-200$ card for a period of time...
I said a couple of weeks ago that the 5770 needs to be a bit cheaper, and that was with it's expected performance coming in between the 4870 and 4890.
It looks overpriced to me, but still very difficult to say no to it in comparison to a 4870 or gtx260 though, if only for its other features.

The 5770 and 50's are for sale on Newegg! Not a bad deal at all ..

Putting aside it's HTPC credentials, DX11 and eyefinity and looking at this from a strict gaming performance POV I can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed by the HD5770 1GB when comparing it's price/performance ratio to the HD4870 1GB.
5790 and 5830 soon to come maybe?

I agree with rawsteel, AMD are starting the claw back.
Its a delicate balancing act in business, when to up prices and start making your margin the main interest over your market share etc. AMD/ATI have given us a couple of nice releases at a sensible price with no real reason to quibble, namely the 4850/4870 and the 4770. The 4770 set a new presitent with its price/perf and we just got used to the company giving a decent offering for a sensible price.
Now we all know that these 5770 cards cant cost that much more to make so its obvious they have decided (1 card too soon in my opinion) that now is the right time to up prices and start thinking of the margins again.
Realistically this was always going to happen sooner or later but if they are not careful they will end up with an admitidly very decent card that for what i would have thought was the target market segment is..... well, just not relevant. I could be wrong but i would have thought its 4770/4850/4870 owners they are targeting here
Sure its got DX11 (again no demo/games) = not relevant. Eyefinity, what midrange gamer uses tripple or even dual displays ? = not relevant.
native HDMI is nice but im not sure about display port ?
Ok so some are saying the price is high to help shift 4870's. So why did the 4770 come out cheaper than a 4850 then ?
I just hope for their sake Nvidia dont pull a decent card out of its bag anytime soon because if they do and at a reasonable price i know where the mainstream market will head.
Yes its a decent card but its just that bit too expensive for what it is, or have they priced it for what it could be given some driver retunes and a decent DX11 game ?
Just another in an increasing list of AMD own goals and missed opertunaties.

ok so they have mid range, and doing a good job on high end.
I think they should focus a little more on the integrated graphics.
I'm hoping 4670 as a new basic performance, since I hate the 4650
Will that be happening any time soon?Ati?

Yeah, the 4770 was just all around bewildering. Didn't it take them a while to build up stock of it though? I know for a while it was sold out, so during those times it didn't hurt the 4850 sales.
Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz > GA-MA770T-UD3P > Sapphire ATI 4650 512MB DDR3 > 4GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz@1066MHz > XP/Win7 Enter 64

Isn't there something called ATI FUSION that allows you to OC an AMD processor and ATI crossfire (compatible ones, of course) that allows for some major enhancements?
*Sorry for getting off topic TGGA!*
you didnt tell me about the photo editing etc, in that case, go with the i5, fusion is amds name for upcomming cpu wwith gpu on die

I read both toms and anandtech's review and i think if they lower the price of 5770 it would be good since HD 4870 beats it in most games
^^^
It's a pricing strategy to have people buy the remaining stock of HD 4870. Eventually AMD will lower the price; after most of the HD 4870 stock have been exhausted. Either way AMD makes a sale.

Yeah that's a good reason
The 4870 already sells for $120 without AR. If it goes to $105, it will be such a good buy..
Not to mention the 4850, which is about $90. If it hits for the same price the 4670 is now, it'll be absolutely awesome...
5770 -$140
5750 -$120
5670 -$80
5650 -$60
5670 = 4770 + DX11?

From the numbers i have seen the 4750 come out around a 4770, still its early days yet and once drivers have stabilised. These are undeniably decent cards but im not buying one for a couple of reasons, First i want to see them perform in DX11 games, i have no doubt they will but i want to see it for myself. Secondly its going to be a 5770 i will get but not untill the price has gone down a bit or the board partners release the upgraded cooler versions etc.

The 57xx cards have low memoty bandwidth (128 bit bus) and run the DDR5 too fast to leave anything for user OC. The only way to get decent decent results (high FPS) is to run lower rez (eg 1280x960 or 1440x900) with maximum FX.
I just sold my 9600GT (good card in its day) to a friend of mine and paid the difference and ordered the XFX 5770. It will be here today but my motherboard for my HTPC is in RMA process @ EVGA, hopefully that will be back within the week.
I'm anxious to see what it can do. I read there are performance enhancements for video playback and it should be a perfect replacement of my 8800GTX ACS3 card I was running on my Corsair 450 watt psu, lol.
After I get it up and running I will try to post some feedback. I think this card will mature with newer drivers or at least mature to what they finally want it to be once the 4000 series cards are depleted...

I have the HD 5770 in hand and I checked my RMA status and they received it yesterday and shipped today. I should have it by this weekend or 1st of the week.

I have recently ordered this card (5770) to upgrade form my old GeForce 8800 GTS. The 8800 has served me very well for the past few years but it doesn't seem to work very well with windows 7 64 bit in full screen applications. I am hoping that the future promise of DirectX 11 and future development of the drivers will let this mid range card shine. I agree that for what is currently does it is about $20-$40 over priced, but i won't know for sure until i get it installed and benchmark it in my own setup. I have plans of running this card in Xfire but i am starting with one card to make sure that it doesn't come in and i suffer a sever case of buyers remorse before i invest in a second card. I also use two or three monitors at a time, so the ability to run three form one card is attractive for me so that i can have a game up, my work up, and also have itunes the internet and communications software all up and running and visible.

I was in hopes to be posting here with some benchmarks. It seems my previous issue is ongoing. I got my EVGA 730i mobo back from RMA and its better but still slow and laggy. The only thing I can see to try at this time is to reinstall windows. I have a couple of issues at hand.
The only working drivers for my HD 5770 for XP 32 bit is on the disk - ATI's website doesn't have drivers for XP 32 bit for the 5700 Series and XFX's websites drivers appear corrupt or give an error "No hardware detected for this software or driver installation".
The drivers for my Wireless 300N USB adapter doesn't have drivers for Windows 7
The Windows 7 disk I preordered from Microsoft seems to have no literature (and no CD Key) with the disks.
I have had nothing but trouble with my system:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] super-slow
And still having issues, I am thinking about pulling my other Q9550 EO from my gaming system to see if theres something wrong with the processor. I have to doubt this is the issue but I have done everything except reinstall the OS and that is what I am about to do. If that doesn't fix the issue I will test with the other CPU.

Ok, so i just put the 5770 in my PC last night, Core i7 920 @ 2.78Ghz, P58 mobo, 6Gb DDR3 in tri channel. Right out of the box i have it OC to 900mhz core clock and 1300mhz Memory with no problems. I havn't been had enough time to benchmark it yet but i will post that tonight or tomorrow and probably see if i can OC it a bit more. I know there is a review with it OC'd to 950mhz with a 1560mhz memory.
I'm confused - how does a 5770 stack up to a 4890?
