For some reason, my compaq presario r3000 will no longer recognize the d:\ drive. In the device manager, it reads that there is a corrupt file of some sort, and it lists "code 39" as the issue. When i click into the "my computer" section, it only shows the c:\ drive but not the d:. Can anyone give me some advice as to how i might remedy this situation? I'd be grateful.

If "D:" is your optical drive, sounds like the driver has corrupted.

Start up windows in safe mode, go into device manager and delete/uninstall any reference to optical drives/drivers and restart in normal mode for Windows to detect hardware and refresh the driver.

If the fails, go back info safe mode and delete/uninstall the IDE ATA/ATAPI secondary channels and again restart in normal mode for Windows to redetect hardware.

So I followed your advice and now i got my laptop to recognize the d:\\ drive again. However, there is still one dilema. the d: drive will now play music cd's and will download software cd's but does not recognize dvd's at all. How should I remedy this. Thanks again.

So now my computer recognizes the D: drive. However, It can play music cd's and download software(very slowly), but does not recognize any dvd disc i put in. I downloaded the codecs that i think i needed, and i have intervideo windvd installed but it wont recognize dvd's at all even if i try to play them in windows media player.
Any suggestions????

thankyou, Kenny
