I have a Q9550 2.83Ghz while using 4 cores. i do edit videos and render, but not so much. If i disable 2 of the cores my CPU goes at 6.0Ghz and i mostly game, should i use all 4 or just 2? and will it do any difference? thanks guys.

Disabling 2 cores will not make your CPU go to 6.0GHz. If you disable 2 cores, then you have a dual core running at 2.83GHz.

Use all 4 cores and overclock it to 3.4

LOl, I haven't heard this one before.

Like SCofD said, disabling the cores doesn't amp up the speed of the remaining cores on a Q9550.

The Intel Nehalem processors can step up a little bit when other cores are not in use but not to 6.0 Ghz.

In fact, you'd need some god ol' LN2 (liquid nitrogen) to hit a clock speed of 6.0 Ghz.

Yes agreed because if u disabled 2 cores u won't speed up the other cores on your model PC...
Therefore u r better of leaving it with 4 cores running...

4 cores > 2 cores.

If you disable 2 cores then You'lll notice performance decrease even if you are not running heavy tasks.

With the way programs are being developed today, higher Ghz is not as important as they used to be when we are on single core/single thread cpu's. Today is seams the more cores there are the better.
