Hello, I am using Windows Mobile 2003 SE on an Axim X30. I have some music
files and videos on my PC that I've shared on the local wireless network.
After enabling the "\Network" folder on my device and using "net use 'My
Music' '\\COMPUTERNAME\My Music' /user:USER" to connect, I can browse and
open the music and videos using File Explorer and from "Open File" in Windows
Media Player 10 Mobile, browsing to a path like "\Network\My Music\MUSIC.WMA."

Since the "Network" folder is seen as a storage card, I attempted to update
the media library so I could browse the Network files from the Media Library
in WMP10M. During the "search" phase, it locates the music and videos on the
share, displaying "62 files found," however it is unable to create a media
library (no actual error message of any kind of failure).

Using a real storage card for testing, I noticed it creates a folder named
"MSMETADATA" at the root, and creates a file named "XMEMediaLibrary.mlb"
within this folder. Since "\Network" is a virtual folder, real folders
cannot be created within it, so I decided to try renaming the "My Music"
share as "MSMETADATA" to see what happens.

Now, the path to the music is "\Network\MSMETADATA\MUSIC.WMA." Starting the
Media Library update again, after it locates the music files and during the
"Adding..." phase, the file "XMEMediaLibrary.mlb" appears in the
"\Network\MSMETADATA" folder as I anticipated. However, it then disappears,
reappears, disappears, repeatedly until the operation is complete. The file
is usually 133KB or less each time it appears. Unfortunately, the result of
this reappear/disappear sequence is nothing; it just disappears in the end.

I was thinking it was permissions on the share, but that's not it, as I can
delete, rename, create, etc. the files in the share from the device, and the
file, when it appears, seems valid (i.e. it isn't just random bytes written),
as I was able to copy/paste it before it disappeared and it had various
binary data inside it.

I tried to rename the copy back to "XMEMediaLibrary.mlb" and check for any
reaction from the device. There was a response, as, when in the Media
Library, clicking the "Library" drop-down at the top shows "Network" added to
the previous two items, "My Device" and "Built-in Storage." Browsing through
the "Network" library though causes a message to appear stating that the
library is corrupt; because of this, no files appear in the "Network" library.

I hope my description was thorough enough to explain what I'm trying to
accomplish. In case it got lost in the long description, I'll reduce my
request to a concise question. How would I get a "Network" Media Library
created in WMP10M?

May I have any information, possibly from those at Microsoft, on the method
the Media Library generator uses to create and write the data file, so that I
may accomodate it? Any suggestions on how to get the "Network" library
working would be appreciated.

Thank you for your time.
