Well I am building a computer. I am wondering what you guys think about my hard drive situation.

I am thinking of either 3 10,000RPM VelociRaptor drives or going over to SSDs. Which would be faster? The 3 150GB drives RAID 5 or 2 64 SSD's with RAID 0 (striped) running my OS. Also, would it be worth it to stripe SSD drives, I want a fast comp. It would probably be the os on the ssd's and a 72/10rpm drive for documents and such. I am building this primarily for performance and need a fast machine.

SAS in Stripe with 3 15000RPM drives.

Yeah? I've thought about that but the thing is, I want a decent sized HDD with keeping the cost under 600 total. Like 2x64ssd with another driver or 3x10,000. would 15,000 striped be faster than ssd striped?

If your total budget for this is $600, forget the SSD drives, and forget about 15,000rpm drives as well.
A SSD that actually performs well/does all the great things you have been hearing about SSD drives, will cost you nearly $600 by itself.

oh alright, thanks. There are 10,000 rmp drive on newegg, 150GB but they are "bare" drives. What exactly does that mean?

Reply to jeteryankees22

It just means it's the drive alone. It doesn't include any mounting screws, cables, software, etc. I always buy OEM "bare" drives because I have a stash of screws and cables. Buy the retail version if you want all the extras.

If you bought a halfway decent case it will come with a crap load of screws for any of you hardware needs.

Oh haha, I'm all set then, I have a ton of screws and work at a computer store as technician. Just never came across that term; I knew it as OEM
