Rational:
I wanted a really powerful GPU because it is a gaming computer. I know the toxic edition is literally the most expensive HD 4870 512MB, but in a world of sketchy ATI manufacturers I trust the toxic card. I also am trying to create a really quiet build. I am skimping on the proc to buy the toxic card. I am planning to oc the E7200 to at least 3.17GHz with the freezer pro 7. I don't think it will have any trouble feeding the HD 4870 when it is clocked up. Let me know if I made any garish mistakes. Let me know if you approve. I just don't want to @#$% this up.
Normally I would say avoid the 1GB cards because of very little gain, but Sapphire has a brand new one out that is vapor cooled just like that one for a couple bucks more.
That's all I have, looks good, you'll want to upgrade the CPU as you can.
I was looking at the 1GB model, but it is not a toxic edition, right? At least it doesn't mention anything about vapor-x. It looks very similar but I am just not sure. I am also not gaming at a resolution that makes 1GB worthwhile. Here is the 1 GB card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814102801

I highly recomend getting the 1 GB version if you can. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/arti [...] h1c2lhc3Q=
If you read the conclusion, it explains some benefits beyond just frame rate that I thought was interesting.
Another thing to note is you could get a Gtx 260 216 for probably a little cheaper, and get better performance.
CPU FAR better less money EDIT
GPU a little money saved a little less features(vapor cooling) FASTER clock speeds

Hope this helps

..512mb plummits the frames rate on the 4870 and look at the extra ram on gtx260 working much better..so get the 1gb model for the same price as the toxic 512 version

The previous generation 65nm E4700 is certainly NOT better than the E7200. You might want to check your facts before posting incorrect info.
my bad i read "45um"
I am sincerely sorry.

Thanks Mbbs20,
Looks like in at least this one game 1GB is useful. Happened just this way with 512Mb as I recall, no gains at first then the game makers caught up.
You could also run two 4850s in crossfire for under $300. IMHO that would be better.
Bah! Now you guys have me rethinking my plans! How would a E4700 be better than the E7200? It has less shared L2 cache and is 65nm not 45nm. I just found out that there is an E7300?!?!? Is that worth it over the E7200? Apparently the E7300 has a 10x multiplier. I am treading into over budget territory... the $300 graphics card is real tight as it is. Sapphire doesn't even have the 1GB toxic style card listed on their site! How legit can that be?
The problem with two HD 4850s in cf is noise and heat. I am going for a really quiet build. To get two 4850s under $300, they would pretty much have to be reference 4850s. That would also make my case really hot. I am trying to find a quiet solution that exhausts heat out the back.
The card came out yesterday, litterally. You could at least give them 36 hours
The announcement about Sapphire, ATI, and the new cooling tech happened a couple days ago in the tech news. It's not a different card, just a different cooler.
The E7300 is likely worth the extra 10 bucks. Intel said Monday they were dropping the price, but it has no yet happened.
Ignore the E4700, it's not enough power for you.
this might have been what i was trying to post...its only one spade down from the thing i posted earlier...LOOK

anyways this is a E7300 for the same price

Tigerdirect has the E7300 for the same price that newegg.com has the E7200 ($119)! I would also have to pay taxes with newegg so if I choose the E7000 series, I would definitely go with tigerdirect for the cpu. Lol at the 1GB Sapphire, I had no idea it was so brand new. If I get a cheaper P45, like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128345 and buy my cpu at tiger direct, the build comes out to exactly $1000 before rebates. Replacing the toxic 4870 with the 1 GB puts me $10 over, but with a $15 rebate on the mobo the final build cost is $995
That sounds very good to me.
I'm going to have to wait for at least one review of the 1 GB Sapphire though. The only reason I would get it is if it is really quiet like the toxic edition. It is at a price premium...
Someone posted a review for the sapphire 1GB. It sounds awesome! For $10 over the 512 toxic edition I think it is worth it
