Hello,
I am hoping to put together a new pc for the first time in 6 years. Obviously, I've missed a lot with what has happening, and I don't know where to start with what is what. Any help will be appreciated.

I don't play too many pc games anymore, so it won't need a gamers machine. I want to be able to run most games at decent framerate at the medium visual settings (no crysis or anything like that, more like hl2).

I plan to use the computer as a general use computer that will suit my needs for the next several years. I am getting into digital photography, and would like to get into using Photoshop and other photo editing programs.

I would like to dualboot into Linux. I would like to make the switch with this build, but will still need to use windows applications (should i switch to vista?). Both OS's will need to see the same data files.

I will need to get most everything new, but would like to keep my case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129124), 2 ide hard drives (various files that I'm too lazy to go through), and an ide dvd burner (seems silly to buy a new one). I have a 19inch monitor and don't play on buying a new one for the forseeable future.

The location of the computer now is in the living room. Right now it runs quite loud and I can't leave it on if I am watching tv. If possible, i would like for it to be relatively quiet. Not whisper quiet, but not load enough that it sounds like a jet is taking off.

I am looking to spend <$1500.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I put together a list for you.

There is really no need to spend so much... use the extra for software:

Proximon,
Thanks for the reply. Everything looks very good to me. Any recommendations on a sata drive (or brand), or are they all about the same?

I was suprised to see what i could get for under $1000.
