We have two computers sharing a DSL connection via a crossover cable network with Proxy+ as the ICS software. Problem is that the client computer (the one without internal DSL modem) cannot use any online games. Every other network and Internet function works great; but, Counterstrike, for example, can't find any servers; Sierra update says there is no Internet connection; Starcraft can't access Battle.net, etc.

I have assigned 90.0.0.1 and 90.0.0.2 as the two internal IP addresses; the external one is dynamic. I could not find any settings for "use proxy server" or such in any of the games. Anyone familiar with Proxy+ or this problem please help!

Thanks,
Online-game addict who needs a hit

I think I know what's wrong, just not sure how to fix it:
For IE to work, I had to set it to use a proxy server with address 90.0.0.1 (the proxy comp's IP address.) SO, it would follow that any prog accessing the Internet would need to be set the same. Question is, how do I do this for games? I could find no settings to change in various game menus. Any ideas?
Edited by jem007 on 05/17/01 06:31 PM.

the problem appears to be with the NAT portion of ICS. It's not forwarding the packets back to the other machine. It should be able to work, but you'll have to play around with the setup a bit... Try this link... it has a very helpful support page(s) that deals with getting games to work behind NAT...

Im having a similar problem in that i cant sign up for "game spy". I found that the fire wall (zone alarm) can cause all sorts of problems when u add another computer. I was using proxy+ but found that it didnt help much at all. I still havent worked a way around it jet, although everything else works great.

Thanks for the link, good general info but for specific ICS's they only have WIN98SE ICS, Sygate, and some others-no Proxy+ :( Maybe I just need to break down and buy Sygate. Does anyone else have experience with Proxy+ or another freeware proxy program that they can use for online games? Or are there some settings in Windows itself that can get me around this problem? Any help is appreciated

Maybe my problem is I have regular win 98 (not SE) maybe I should just upgrade to SE and use its ICS??

My friend has the same problem. He has a cable connection from AT&T and has a couple of computers on a LAN. I know it's not exactly the same setup but all of the symptoms are identical. The only way he was able to get around it was to pay $5 more a month and get another line and another IP address. If you find out how to fix it please let me know. I have heard that some DSL providers will give you another IP for free so that each computer has a seperate connection.
