I'm a newbie when it comes to PDAs.

I realize the PalmOS is a different OS, but are "PPC" (Pocket PC), "WinCE"
and "Windows Mobile" just names for different generations of WinCE? Or are
they different?

Confused.

Windows CE is an operating system, like Windows 98, Windows XP or 'Linux'.
It has versions 1 through 5.

P/PC and Windows Mobile are "Platforms" based on Windows CE. Windows Mobile
succeeded the P/PC as a new brand name. Just as P/PC came after Palm-size
PC, and Palm-size PC after Palm PC (for legal reasons) and Palm PC was a
spin off release from the original Handheld PC:

A Platform is more apt to the model of how Red Hat and Mandrake relate to
Linux, They are based on the Linux code, but come with their own User
Interface, applications, customisations and features.
