XpertVision ATI HD4870 Sonic PCI-E 2.0 1GB

I think there's another thread where they mention that card, but not sure if it is the 1GB.

Anyway, the only difference is that the 1GB version has more dense GDDR5 chips and a little OC in some cases. And from the picture i see it has 2 fans instead of the reference design cooling. That is good, but there will be a lot of hot air inside the case if that doesn't go out.

Wow quick response, this is my first post here so thanks heaps, very impressed. yeah I’d like to shop from Newegg but from memory they don't ship to Australia, and also I wanted to get this card quickly as I'm getting the TV delivered this Friday and I don’t have a card to give me the high res at the mo, also I didn't want to wait another week or so for the card. I guess the important thing for me is I didn't want to spend that much money and end up with something that performs poorly with gaming on such a large screen. I’m thinking of crisis here. Also the real reason I’ve settled on this card is not the OCing on it, it’s the HDMI. I’ve done a bit of reading about DVI output and have come to realise that if it’s not Duel-link DVI I’ll only be able to get it running with 60Hz out put on regular DVI-I, were as I think DVI Duel link can give me up the 85Hz. Although I’m not sure how much the Hz issue will effect a plasma TV I’d prefer to have the option than not.

you should also consider the fact that most cards do come with a dvi-hdmi converter, which also enables audio... its basically the same thing, except theres a little adapter at the back, but i doubt you'll be putting your computer flat on its back, so you don't have anything to worry about...

Thanks for the info WilliamLEJA, that’s I guess what I meant about the 85Hz and not being sure how much it would matter, though I wasn't positive. So that advice is right on the money. Also I’d be tempted to expand to 2 crossfired 4870's because id really like to play games at high res on this TV, but my board drops down to 4x PCI-e due to the P35 chipset limitations so I think I’ll probably settle for a single card at the moment, then get another when I upgrade my MB. Crysis is probably the only game that will really make that card struggle. I am running an 8800GTS 512 and playing games like STALKER, Call of Duty 4, and TES: Oblivion with everything on high. You should not have any sort of problems with those games considering that 4870 is far more powerful compared to what I have.

I agree about waiting. I would not be too concerned with the P35's limitation of 4x. The hit you take is small compared to the performance benefit. The good part about waiting is that those cards will come down in price as the new stuff comes out. All you have to do is wait and be patient...which is sooo darn hard .
