Those are my current specs right now and I think my motherboard is about to go soon. I need to purchase a new motherboard while keeping all the same components. Please recommend a good overclocking motherboard that costs between $100-$200.

What are the new chipsets out now? I have not keep up with the latest tech in awhile. Thanks

What is happening that you suspect the motherboard is dying? It may not be a problem with the motherboard at all...

Several days ago my system crashed while shutting down Vista and had a BSOD memory dump.

After rebooting the system it would get stuck on the 'memory' detection screen where you hit delete to enter BIOS. As soon as I turn on my computer (cold or warm boot), the system gets stuck on the BIOS screen and the word 'MEM....' that is not spelled out completely, then resume after about 3 mins and boots into windows.

At first I thought it was a memory problem. I purchased new memory, corsair 2x 2GB DDR800 and the problem is still happening. I flash the BIOS to the latest F9B for my motherboard and nothing changed. I reset my BIOS and removed the CMOS battery and the problem is still there.

I've never seen this type of problem before, this concludes that the motherboard might be dying. I don't think it can be a virus because I scanned my whole system with Bit defender and nothing was detected.

Any inputs before I purchase a new motherboard?

The ASUS P5QC board looks pretty good. Maximum memory is 16gb with six memory slots! :pt1cable:

I can reuse my current Gskill 8gb memory and add more to it since I have another 4gb that I just purchased.

How is the P45 chipset? Should I purchase another identical video card to do SLI? How much performance increase will I get from the SLI? Thank you!

Reply to sinitry23

SLI 8800gts is nice too, they become cheap as new models comes out.

you should OC a bit the get full adventage of a SLI. like 3.4 or 3.6 ghz.

Low CPU speed seem to bottleneck SLI cause it need more Juice from it.

For a quite low price you can give a new life to your E6600 ;)

What i listed on top does it indicate a dying motherboard?

I'm using the board Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L which is P45 and have the fsb cranked up to 1600 for which the board is rated for.

What about Abit Boards? Are there any good Abit board for my setup with SLi?

Reply to sinitry23

I don't see any Abit boards with SLI on newegg at the moment.

A little over my budget but what do you guys think? Will this be an overkill for my setup? Since I will be upgrading my motherboard, I think i will get another video card to go SLi.

Should i change my memory or keep it?

ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard

That's a good motherboard. However, it is an X48 chipset which supports ati crossfire and NOT nvidia SLI. You could always drop 2x 4870x2s in it. It will cost you but BOY will it be fast, albeit bottlenecked by your CPU.

If you're dead set on SLI, you need a 750i or 790i chipset board.

Just get one off the board i had recommend, P45 OC well, and if you want a SLI u can take the one i listed too, but better sli board can still be bought.

a 780I if you can spend more that 200$

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131294

a 210$ (striker without all its gadget) seem nice to me for a SLI board.

Ok I've decided to go with the Intel P45 chipset.

Will my setup work with this motherboard? Do I need to upgrade my memory? I would like to keep my current setup / memory to save money but my memory is DDR800 and this motherboard's memory is DDR1200.
ASUS P5Q Deluxe LGA 775 Intel P45 Intel

Also I have an Artic cooler 7 CPU heatsink. It shouldn't be a problem to fit on this motherboard right?

Reply to sinitry23

your link is a Crossfire board. just to tell you about it.

Reply to boulard83

Thanks Boulard83 for the heads up. Will it not work if I pop in a Nvidia video card in that crossfire board?

Reply to sinitry23

YESSSS

gonna work fine, but if you have a CF mobo, whit have a Nvida card !

the point in buy a CF-SLI board at my opinion is for extreme gamer or like me, i have a 9800gtx+ and when this card price will go way lower, ill buy another ... I see sli like a Cheap futurproof upgrade !

Asus P5Q Board

Not a crossfire board. But can I use it with my slow DDR800 memory? What do you guys think?

Reply to sinitry23

thats an awesome Basic Board !

will oc nice but look

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131329

same but cant do the RAID ... you plan on HDD RAID ?

for 90$ its a good bang for the buck !

Reply to boulard83

Nope I'm not going to RAID. I will finalize my decisions and go with the cheaper board. Thank you once again!

What about my memory? I don't want to waste all 8gb DDR800.

Reply to sinitry23

Put this all into this MOBO ! can go up to 16g, so 8g is fine.
for the speed, not a matter put it in and go check BIOS for speed and timing, manual it if needed.

yes, you can use your 800 MHz RAM. The number you see there (1200) means that is the max rated (allowed) RAM frequency. So 800 is less than 1200, so you are good to go... ;)
also - if you want SLI it must be a nVidia chipset (750, 780, 790 or whatever). X38, x48, P45 are CF(cross-fire).
Please note that you can always use single graphics card on whatever chipset you choose. The chipset only plays role when going multi-GPU setup (SLI or CF).
If you want to be able to support both, SLI & CF you have to move to X58 motherboard...

Ah I want to buy the
Asus P5q pro
and Intel E8400 3Ghz proceccer
and better ideas for less buck
