what driver version you use?
I have fps problem on my new 4870 on crysis dx10. Try run "crysis.exe -dx9" this will run in dx9 mode on vista, wich works fine for me. BUT the problem with 3Dmark and some other games persists :((((

WEll my guesses are.

Either card card isn't seated good.

You got a bad driver install.

Your PSU is dieing.

I'm runing Crysis 64bit.. i will check for dx9....
how much you get on your 3dmark?
btw, the boot problem? what it can be?

Reply to zakash2

boot problem sounds like the card is not seated good like roadrunner 197069 said. try remove it and refit it gain :)
My 3dmark06 score is about 11000 with AMD X2 @3.0Ghz (which is bad)

P.S. I have HD3870 as well and my score on 3dmark is about the same with both cards :(

48xx series dont score well on 3dmark 06 any how.

If your CPU is stock that would explain the low score.

Make sure your card is running 16x and not 1x.

well, its seating at 16X but where in the bios i checking that?

and how i run crisys on drx9?

Well first off if its your third 4870 card by different manufactures I think you can safely remove the graphics card as being the problem. As for the Gigabyte card its an excellent card, running two of them here in crossfire and haven't had a single problem with the cards playing Crysis or Crysis Warhead. Which driver are you using? Hopefully your not using the driver supplied with the card. I'm using CAT8.9 here.

When you boot the computer the graphics fan speed starts at full then throttles back, this is normal for ATi cards. So don't worry about that.

Have you downloaded GPUZ to confirm your card is operating in X16 mode?

If GPUZ confirms the motherboard and graphics card are working in X16 mode then I would look at memory configurations and settings.

As far as 3dmark06 I haven't run it in years, not since my first crossfire setup using X1900 cards and discovering 3dmark06 would disable crossfire. I look at pure game performance instead of what 3dmark06 says its doing.

As for running Crysis in directX9 mode if your using vista, in games right click on Crysis and it will bring up a list and you will see PlayDX9, just click there to start the game.

Absolutely no! I have 35+ fps on 1680x1050 maxed out on COD4 with my old 3870 :( HD4870 supposed to be twice as fast at least.
something's wrong with RV770s :( I already regret spending ~£200 on my HD4870. I realy didn't noticed any performance increase compared to 3870 :( so sad.

P.S. I've searched the net and found that many people have performance isues with 4870s, some people don't. Unfortunatelly we are from the guys that did :(

so, what we going to do? :\

have you tried this drivers hotfix? http://support.ati.com/ics/support [...] deptID=894
uninstall all ati software first, restart computer and then install this driver, please.

I didn't get any performance boost with this but some people did have.
just try and post results :)
cheers!

So, at High (No Vhigh option) 30-40fps.

3Dmark:
Score: 12093

SM 3.0: 5287
CPU: 3986

i did Crazy oc to the card 790/1100. its gave me only 2 more fps 12-15 at vhigh and high...
and its gave me only 12053 at 3dmark.
when my old sapphire gave me then 12323 without any oc...
what it can be? problem with the card? with the settings?
help :X

i just checked my old test, at 3dmark i'm loseing at Canion flight....
with the sapphire i had 70.016 FPS
and now i get only 55.182 FPS + lil' jump for a sec to black screen in the middle of the test..

this is realy strange. black screen in the middle of the test is not good at all, plus strange behaviour of the cardt when you switch on your PC = possible hardware failure :(
I don't have any side effects from my PowerColorHD4870, only poor performance; 3dmark06 ~10000, crysis 1680x1050 enthusiast settings ~ 15-20 fps.

well guys, i tried to update my bios.... its didnt helped..
i tried F6, that should fix the VGA compatibility issues, and the F11 - the last update...
still got booting problems.

edit: well its to much i think.. i dont know.. i really hope its some setings problem in bios or something...
in some places at COD4 i got 10-20FPS!

Something not right. The VGA is ok. Might be something on the PCI express slot. I think your mobo maybe dying.
I play COD 4 2xAA at 1650x1080 smooth with a 4850. With a fantastic Athlon X2 4800+ and a Asus M2V, witch is not PCIE 2.0.

IF you already swapped PSUs and GPUs, and performance didn't changed a bit, i point to the mobo.

Or have you tried a clean install ? Try to update chipset drivers also.
