Maybe another die shrink for those poor k8s... might break it by raw clockspeed then,

Turion Ultra is a K8 shrunk to 65nm with a full L2 2Mb cache (unlike the X2's that went to 65nm crippled) ... plus the 5 power states.

Sgrink it to 45nm and tighten the cache control on it still would not be enough.

Additional K10 enhancements would be needed.

I agree, AMDs lack of a true and great dual has hurt them, forgoing a whole segment. Its like nVidia currently, having the old G90s series tide them over til who lnow? the old 65 K8s the same thing, bad ideas, and nothing new, while others pass them by.

Im still looking hopefully at i7 as a good performer with next gen gpus. With what weve seen in dual gpu setups, maybe the faster next gen of cards will benefit as well, or maybe its just a multi card thing. From what Ive seen, the explanations as to why i7 is doing so well in CF/SLI just isnt enough, Im thinking being just a lil faster is helping alot more than we think, but time will tell, when the new cards come out

Kind of makes you wonder if the motherboards might not be as capable as the CPU's in the i7 discussion. Maybe some BIOS updates or second or third generation x58 boards may really let it scream.
As far as the Deneb, I think the fairest thing to do is wait for real numbers that collaborate across multiple review sites before any judgment is made. I have my doubts about it but that doesn't mean I don't want them to succeed. The AMD to Nvidia lethargy is a pretty good comparison jaydee. Cant really say if it was their intent or if they are having some issues going from the drawing board to production but the comparison made is a good one. The only difference being I think Nvidia got fat and happy because they were the king until the 4xxx series saw light of day.

^Only for the 8800 series. When the 9700, aka R300, was released it gave nVidia a run for their money. That till the X1900 series really did great. It wasn't until nVidia released the 8800 series about a year before ATI released the 2900 series did they really do well.

And the 2900 series is actually on par with the 8800 series now due to driver updates. But the 4800 series is ripping nVidia a new one. Its like the R300 era all over again. And I am sure the HD5K series will do the same if the rumors are true.

well aware of that jimmys. in recent times jaydee's comparison translates pretty well though. i still have a 2900 and not only is it my last remaining agp card but it will meet its death with me as i refused to sell it anytime i have been asked (in spite of my issues with drivers on occasion). bless them for not abandoning agp. its going to be a sad day when that computer dies.

65nm with 2MB L2? Sweet. They really should get round to selling them as Athlon X2s

^ They should've done that in the first place.

Hmm... now we have those K10 based Athlons... good I suppose... should come with a water cooling kit or die shrink to 32nm on HK/MG.
