Hi all

I plan to upgrade my MB, CPU and RAM. The options that I have are as follows:

Core 2

MB - Asus Intel striker 2 extreme
CPU - Intel 2.83 quad q9550
RAM - 4Gb OCZ Reaper DDR3 1333MHz

Core i7

MB - Intel X58So SmackOver Retail pack
CPU - 2.66 Intel i7/Nehalem 920
RAM - 6Gb Corsair DDR3-1333 XMS 3

Which of the above would give me better performance. I know that Nehalem is supposed to be 25% faster but I cannot afford the 2.93 Intel i7/Nehalem 940 and that is the only MB available here for the Nehalem at the moment. Your input would be highly appreciated.

What do you have now? You may be fine for awhile until core i7 prices drop a little. And I wouldn't buy ddr3 now unless you're paying about $40 a gig, which is a good price.

As o1die said if you have a decent system now and can hold off a bit for core i7 to drop do that.

But otherwise i would go with i7, why get old tech when you can get new tech, since you would already be getting ddr3 for the 775 build.
I would however recommend you wait for a better mobo for the i7 so you can get something similar to the Asus Intel striker 2 extreme
mobo. (rampage 2 extreme).

lol no I'm saying its good. Didn't hear anything about the ocing being crippled. I heard one person overclocked a 2.66GHz to around 4.0GHz..which is pretty cool!!!

So it just the case that they cost a lot of money, and the fact that you would also have to upgrade your MoBo and RAM to accommodate!

@Wahjahka : On a side not...lol we seem to be having pretty much the same conversation on two threads
