This is my first time on any forum so bare with me.

First, I have a Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 Laptop and was curious if I can upgrade the CPU from currently, 2.8ghz Mobile Intel Pentium4 processor 5181MB L2cache, 533 Mhz FSB to a Mobile Intel Pentium4 processor 532 1MB L2cache, 533 Mhz FSB 3.06 ghz (Model A75-S209). I tried with the 3.06ghz but it will not boot all the way it stays in black screen. Do I have to configure the Bios before I put the new CPU? I thought once you put the CPU the BIOS would recognize it.

I had to replace the original motherboard because the old one burnt out and I figured since I had to buy a new board I wonder if I can upgrade the CPU. I do know that the next model number after mine is the A75-S209 which are very similar except the CPU Speed (3.06GHz) and extra parts. If it can not be done than fine I just thought to try and ask. If anyone can help please do so and reply. Thank you in Advance. :pt1cable:

It really depends on whether the chipset on the motherboard will support it. It looks like two processors are completely two different generation.

You should double check with the manufacturer's page to see if the new CPU is indeed offered. There is a chance that BIOS does not recognize the CPU, and / or the CPU voltage is set too low / high. To be honest unless you're very sure about it, changing CPU on a laptop is never a good idea.
