I am to old for gaming so I needed to know what you think of this motherboard. I have a $300 budget too. I have a PII 400Mzh MB now...It is upgrade time.

I dont like it because of the Nvidia chipset.

If you need HDMI look at P5Q-EM. I got my mom one paired with a e1200 1.6 and Over clocked it to 3.2, and she couldn't be happier. Plays DvDs and Blu/Ray no problem.

Yeah, the Nvidia chipset I was misinformed to use quite a while back isn't the greatest, and the northbridge runs hot as hell compared to another Intel or AMD chipset.
Plus,the thing costs a good ~75 USD.
I'd aim for the E5200 and a Gigabyte G31 as it's cheaper and a better platform.(or if you want to go REAL cheap,go for AMD Athlon 64 X2,but it may not be as power efficient)

Much depends on what you will use it for, but the P5N would not be the best choice.

Possibly the P5QL-EM plus the E5200 and 2GB of RAM such as:

Those three items stay well under your 300.00 budget.

I like this board, but compare a Intel GMA 4500 to a Gforce 7100. I will need a power supply & case fan too.

I am saving $10.00 a week for this build, looks like I will be saving a little longer.
