???Chroming: Smoked Nickel Plating ($5,000)???

For 5K one should be able to have a stainless steel eATX case platnium plated to 0.001" thick with jewelery grade finish.

Dude give it up.

CrossX 4870s will kill the 280 GTXs in SLI and in tri.

the Resolution was 1920x1200 at 4x AA.

NO ONE CARES ABOUT CRYSIS, its the only game it has problems at, and its still Beta.

Oh yeah, the GX2 kills the 280 GTX in Crysis.

Please don't start that sh!t in my thread.

Anyways, to the rest.

Yeah i think its overkill to the max, but its nice to see that soo much money can do such little improvement. :P

17 k? hmmm. Rather invest it.. so i can perhaps 2 of those computers :P

Well, you're wrong. A single 4870 has 1.2 TFlops of power, while a GTX280 has 933 GFlops. A 4870x2 has 2.4 TFlops of power, leading the above system to be around 4.8 TFlops. This means you'd need over 5 GTX280's to match that kind of raw power.

It does get kind of murky if you take into consideration the other factors. In ATI's favor, Crossfire communicates better, has DX10.1 support for a potential 10-30% FPS improvement on upcoming titles, as well as various other little bells and whistles. In Nvidia's favor, they are experts at getting developers to detune games against ATI, and bleeding consumers dry of their money with mad marketing skills.

For my money, Nvidia can take their glorified DX9 super toasters and shove them up their butts.

But anyway, nice computer.

Reply to Malovane

No need to even debate between ATI or Nvidia here. The system is overpriced and a total waste of money, period.

is there a point on buying extreme speaker that cost more than 500 dollars ...
that stupid...

Reply to ojomow

Heh....good catch on the speakers I just noticed that.

I looked them up. They sell for $350 straight from the manufacturer. They are 2.1 and only 55W. Be it $500+ or $350, its a ripoff.

For consumers!!

New products are continually tested that will never see the light of day. It's a combination of lack of investment, which cuts profits, and therefore shareprice.

2 4870's in Crossfire won't be much better than your 9800Gx2 ( a fine card.) You should be aiming for 1 4870X2 and 1 4870. That I think will justify an upgrade from GX2. It is what I hope to get. Assuming my Zalman 850 can handle all that Power Req.

I meant The 4870s X2, not the 4870s lol:P

It would cost less than 3 280 GTXs, not drain as much power, and in theory perform better.

yeah really, he has not sense of money value, I'll assume his parents pay for everything, so he doesn't know the value of the $$$.

the 4870s are 250 now here, and the 280 GTXs are 449.99. Double and only 10-20% faster sometimes, and sometimes it looses (GRID is one I can remember).

:)

Who ever has a 280 GTX, its an awesome card, and you shouldn't be ashamed but it is true that there are other solutions that could've bought you More HDDs, CPUs Memory ETC.

I think for Nvidia users the 260 GTX is the best Performance/$ out of the Nvidia cards, and I saw the Palit 1s here (I think they were palit for 225$

I think the moment you remove that PC from the box it will depreciate down to half the "retail" price. Another month later it's value will drop by another 50%, so on and so forth...

Wait... This is MaximumPC's Dream Machine for 2008? I can see some of the evidence... PC Power & Cooling's best PSU (MPC has *always* included that) for instance... But what's with the speakers? What happened to their contunuous use of Klipsch's ProMedias?

Trust funds actually *do* afford "free time." as we can see (i.e, Paris Hilton) WAY too much free time.

Indeed. Or for less, I'd go with an artistic flair and have a solid copper and bronze case that'd serve as a radiator for the liquid cooling system. Would also mean no one would have the strength necessary to lift the thing to steal my precious, either. :kaola:

...Which would thus be beaten by that setup; what you mention would only get what, 20-25% above 4870 Crossfire? They'd be utterly trashed once you changed that from 4870s to 4870X2s.

I admire you; you're a man (or woman) of good taste. And you might be a small person if you couldn't consume more than 17 grand worth of cheesecake in a lifetime. :p

Based on a price of $20/lb of cheesecake (silly, I know, but it's from Amazon and the first hit on my google search http://www.amazon.com/3-lb-Pumpkin [...] 000CBEYHC), that's 864lbs of cheesecake, or at the size of the cheesecake on amazon, 288 cheesecakes. Sheesh, that's a lot of cake. And it still won't play Crysis :D

This year's maxpc dream machine was doomed the minute they decided to go skulltrail. The only thing it adds is cost.

Yes yes, and I also still believe that the world is flat, even though we have the means to easily prove me wrong.

How can you possibly think that 280 is more powerful when the prove is documented all over the freakin, place.

Once again I get the opportunity to flame another Super-Retard!
