Well, you're wrong. A single 4870 has 1.2 TFlops of power, while a GTX280 has 933 GFlops. A 4870x2 has 2.4 TFlops of power, leading the above system to be around 4.8 TFlops. This means you'd need over 5 GTX280's to match that kind of raw power.

It does get kind of murky if you take into consideration the other factors. In ATI's favor, Crossfire communicates better, has DX10.1 support for a potential 10-30% FPS improvement on upcoming titles, as well as various other little bells and whistles. In Nvidia's favor, they are experts at getting developers to detune games against ATI, and bleeding consumers dry of their money with mad marketing skills.

For my money, Nvidia can take their glorified DX9 super toasters and shove them up their butts.

But anyway, nice computer.

It would cost less than 3 280 GTXs, not drain as much power, and in theory perform better.

the 4870s are 250 now here, and the 280 GTXs are 449.99. Double and only 10-20% faster sometimes, and sometimes it looses (GRID is one I can remember).



Who ever has a 280 GTX, its an awesome card, and you shouldn't be ashamed but it is true that there are other solutions that could've bought you More HDDs, CPUs Memory ETC.

I think for Nvidia users the 260 GTX is the best Performance/$ out of the Nvidia cards, and I saw the Palit 1s here (I think they were palit for 225$
