You know, if you remove the cooler part of this statement, you have a perfect description of a 280 SLI system.

GTX 280/ 260 are being scrapped, wait 2 weeks after 4870x2 when Nvidia launches its new card and do a comparison.Ati will not win that one in Crysis, I can assure you.

Crossfire scales not so great on Crysis.

2 x GTX260 will compete with 4870x2 in that game.

If you want to play Crysis maxed out, wait.

Funny how 2 9800 GTX outperform 2 gtx 280 SLI in that test

There is something fundimentally wrong with that picture.

There was a really good review comparing all of the top Nvidia cards in SLI against 4870x2 CF.

I wish I remembered where that was. Does anyone remember. I think someone posted a link on toms for it. I did a search but couldnt find it.

It showed a lot of games, of course 2 x2's beat 2 280's ( 4 gpus vs 2) but i think it was close. the 2 x2's totally killed everything in AOC and everything else.

This is kinda interesting... 4870s in crossfire hanging with the G280...still a cheaper alternative. I'm still waiting for that QUAD crossfire 4870 styleeee.

You know why every Nvidia Fanboy is mad....because they didn't stick with their guns...they don't have a compatible motherboard...
and now they can't run 2 4870X2s in Crossfire

I certainly don't agree with Concrum's position - however: turning up a fan doesn't make the heat disappear into a black hole of nothingness and it also makes the video card consume more power.

I could really care less about either of those scenarios, but some people might.

Anyways, I wouldn't recommend the gtx280 - its hideously overpriced and its little brother gtx260 is just a flat out better value/performance ratio and has better overall SLI scaling per dollar as well.

Regardless, if all you care about is playing Crysis - then you might as well wait for the 4870x2 and Quadfire them because they will very likely outperform GTX 280 SLI even in Crysis with AA enabled once the drivers and GPU itself are out of the prototype stage.

The heat without high fan speeds means nothing. Does it draw more power than the G280? No. Does it perform comparably with the same power draw? Yes. So, expelling the heat requires a higher fan speed, and not loud either set at comparable temps to the G280, which is louder at the same temps. The G280 expels some of the heat into the case, not so with the 4870, it all goes out of the case, whereas, with the G280, you still have to rely on other fans to expel it, which means your case will be hotter using G280 vs a 4870. Its the exact opposite of what concrum is selling, and Im not sure if he knows it, but now he does.
