I was thinking of getting Intel X25-m 80gbbut my question is it compatible with my MSI 790FX gd-70 mobo? I know that it's 2.5" and I can get and adapter for it but what about it having a SATA II does my motherboard support SATA II?

You just connect it like any other SATA drive; your system doesn' t know the difference between a HDD or SDD it behaves the same. Only the SSD is alot faster.

In the BIOS, you can select the Serial ATA transfer mode, this setting is important:
IDE - for old operating systems like MS-DOS and Windows XP
AHCI - for newer operating systems like Vista / Win7 / Linux etc.
RAID - for RAID arrays
You would want to use AHCI, unless you use Windows XP, then you set it to IDE.

I just finished installing Win7 Ultimate 64 on that mobo with the exact same SSD drive. Works like a champ and my windows score went from the typical 5.9 to 6.8. Not as good as an SLC drive, but nice.
