Got a new PC custom-built from ComputerPlanet. Had to buy a video card as it didn't come with one though sort of implied it did (but that's another issue). After eventually getting it to work, via buying a new DVI cable as well, got into Vista and spent the rest of the afternoon setting things up, copying stuff from my old PC, etc. But at about 11pm I was in the middle of browsing, doing nothing particularly unusual when the PC decided to reboot - no nice shutdown, just a beep and restart. But that's as far as it got. Left it overnight, tried it again this morning. No beeps, no video. Tried various suggestions found via Googling:
- Removed RAM (should get one long, two short beeps - got nothing)
- Removed gfx card (no beeps)
- Removed keyboard, mouse, DVD drive, HD (no beeps)
- Checked all the motherboard connections (no beeps)
- Reset the CMOS following the instructions in the manual - remove power, remove battery, short pins 2-3 for 5~10secs, replace (no beeps)
- Tried Alt-F2 to get into BIOS update (no video (yes I replaced the gfx card), no beeps, so I don't think it went into that option).

Specs:
500 GB SATA HDD UDMA 300 7200 16MB
ASUS P5B SE S/L 1333FSB (O.C) (Intel G31)
Motherboard Integrated 3D Video
Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 (2 x 2.53 GHZ) 1066FSB - 3 MB
Corsair XMS2 4GB DDR2 PC-6400 800 MHZ (2 x 2 GB 800) - Lifetime Warranty
HIPER POWER 530W Low Noise/SLI Ready
Coolermaster Centurion 5
Samsung DVD +/-RW 18x6x18x8 D/LAYER Black (IDE)
Motherboard Integrated 5.1 Sound
Speeze QuadroFlow VIII - Low Noise
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included)
ASUS Wireless LAN 125Mbps PCI
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1650 PRO (512Mb DDR2, PCI-E x16)

I don't have any friends around here to try swapping components, and my old PC is too old to test anything with.

It's now Saturday and their tech support doesn't open until Monday. Anything else I've missed that I can try? Thanks

Forgot to mention, all fans are spinning, green light on motherboard is steady, power light on the front panel comes on when switched on - but HDD light is also permanently on (whether or not HDD connected).

Geoff,

I have the same problem with almost the same hardware profile. Were you able to resolve the issue?

I had to send the PC back in the end. They replaced the motherboard (twice) followed by the PSU, and it appeared to be the latter that was the problem. Took them 3 weeks to resolve it though. I won't be using Computer Planet again.
