C2QX6850 vs. C2DE8400
Forum CPU & Components : CPUs - C2QX6850 vs. C2DE8400
Hey everyone, couldn't find this exact question posed before so figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Anyways I'm planning on upgrading my CPU soon, I have been using AMD for awhile and have been really jealous of the awesome intel chips so I'm probably gonna be going that route. Another reason why I'm planning on going Intel is because they have this awesome program for people who work in retail where once a year you can get an awesome deal on their products. This year it's either a QX6700 for $199 or a QX6850 for $239. I have also heard a lot about how awesome the E8400 is at just about everything and was wondering if it's still worth the extra money to go for one of the extreme processors? I am planning on OC'ing but not going TOO crazy. Will most likely be getting a P45 motherboard as well.
Suggestions? Thanks guys
Um..... QX6850 for $239????? Thats an easy one. The QX6850 will have a unlocked multi, is a quad core, and runs at 3GHz just like the E8400. It can also be OCed to 4GHz (easily done with the unlocked multi).
I say QX6850 if you can get it at that price.
Or you could wait a bit since Intels next gen chip, Nehalem, will be here in the September/October area.

u never heard of the qx6700 cause they dont sell it anymore, its been replaced
get me a qx6850!!! =] please?
| MrsBytch wrote : Well you waited a bit long. Socket 775 is pretty much dead. Nehalem will be out in about a month and it will require a new socket and ddr3.

The QX6700 was basically their first quad core chip. Think Q6700 with an unlocked multi.
Honestly this is how I was leaning anyways just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Sure the socket is almost dead but I can't imagine a Nehalem will beat this performance for this prince for quite awhile, and plus when they finally start up the deal this year it will be for a pretty limited time. Although who knows they've been delaying it so long maybe Nehalem will be out at that point and I can make a more imformed decision.
^As I said. If you can get a QX6850 for $240 bucks thats the best chip you can get. It will pwn the E8400 since it will be more futurproof than anything.

Now it's just waiting for the freaking program to launch...I'm running an AMD Athlon X2 4000+ oc'ed to 2.4 ghz...according to Tom's Charts that Intel chip gets almost 40 fps more in supreme commander (one of my favorite games) than the X2 4600 (also 2.4 ghz)...
You play Supreme Commander?
The quad is definitely, without a doubt the way to go. That's one of the few apps that truly uses the extra cores.

Agreed. If you can get that deal. GO FOR IT!!! (Socket 775 is not dead. Intel's new socket has not even come out yet. Plus we might not even see OCing in the mainstream chips, so you might be future proofed for a while now)

Just in case there is some limiter on telling people about this program don't wanna say exactly where...although it's a certain huge retail chain who's name starts with a B and really likes the colors blue and yellow
. Honestly though it seems like intel offer this program for pretty much anyone who works at a store that sells computer with intel chips in them. Just search for Intel Retail Edge and you'll get the website. All you have to do is answer a bunch of really easy/stupid quizzes.
^I thank you for your patronage. I will look into this cuz a QX6850 @ that price is insane.

Hi guys, i also work at a retail store and have the ability to buy this processor in the next couple weeks. whenever intel gets there stuff together.
if anyone is curious the reason intel is doing this is to increase their sales. they get the computer salesmen to sign up with their retailedge program. have the salesmen take quizzes about intel technology and go to events a listen to intel representatives speak.
what it comes down to is them bribing us to sell computers with intel chips instead of amd chips.
anyways im planning on selling this processor when intel makes it available. i would keep it for myself but i am still very happy with my q6700 that i bought from them last time around.
i will be selling the qx6850 for $500, or $520 shipped. which is still half of what it retails for on newegg.
also they are having a deal with a lenovo y510, c2d, 250gig hd laptop if anyone is interested
email me at keknautz@yahoo.com if you are interested in either the laptop or the processor

yeah that's the kind of thing that I would imagine might get you kicked out of the program
. As far as bribing us to sell their products I'm sure that is the reason, but honestly I'm sure they're still close to making a profit on these chips anyways, the markup must be huge!
That Lenovo is pretty sweet deal too, it's $499 with the program
^My friend worked for Intel in Chandler back in 2004 and probably still is. What he told me is that as a Intel employee every year you get the highest grade CPU they have. You just need to buy the components.
So in 2004 he got the first Pentium 4 EE ever made even before people could by them. Wish I could work for a company that just gave me the products.

yea your right about them possibly booting people from the program for that, 85% of the people involved in the program just hock the stuff on ebay within 5 minuts of getting it anyways.lol. changed my email on the post just to be safe, still anyone interested just email me at the new address if you have any questions.
and im sure the price they are giving these things to us for is right around manufacturing cost.
