I built a pc about 4-5 months ago. It was working great but one day i came back to it, it had restarted and it was trying to load windows. It was stuck on the loading screen with the XP logo. I couldnt get passed that with that hard drive. So i got another loaded windows on it and it works just fine. I tried to also hook the "bad" had up as a secondary and i cant get into windows. I unhooked the bad one and hooked up another that I knew worked and it worked fine as a secondary hd. The problem is i really need to get some files off that hard drive, or at least be able to use it. I did try recently hooking it up as my only HD and it went straight to a blue screen and restarted before I could read the blue screen.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
GeForce 8800GT
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
Samsung dvd drive
the bad HD is a seagate 3.0 sata
also have a WD and Hitachi both 3.0 satas all 320GB
I have not ever had a problem with a HD if that is the problem, and i have been building pcs since 03 so I am really not sure what needs to be done to fix it. or if this is even the right area to post in. also I have XP Prof

When I have a duff hd to get files off, I use an ide/sata usb dongle. Had great success with them too (actually, I use butchered external drive caddies but the idea is the same).

Something like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143274

Oh, be persistent too, I've had knackered drives that take 5 or 6 attempts before they'll read, but they usually do in the end.

The partition is corrupted on the hard disk...

Step one..

Put in the hard disk as a second drive, boot from your first drive that u just got windows on..

click on start , run then type command or CMD
then type chkdsk e: - the drive letter then /r

for example chkdsk e: /r

if this dont work download ontrack easy recovery pro... and then recover the data using this program

you will get your data back is just of what steps you take... I have recovered loads of data for people in this way and its a good earner too.

PM me if you need further help

Will it boot up in safe mode (F8)? If so its a driver that preventing windows to load. From there run a system restore to a known working date.

Boot into safe mode with the bad HD as the 2nd HD? I have yet to try that so I can try that. Secondly would recovery trial version work? Thats the only one i could find.
