Ok so I have done most of the math this is more of an opinion thread.

I just got a Vostro 200 Dell for free got an e4600 in it.
If you have been around any forums latly you know you can overclock these with the BSEL mod from 800 to 1066 to 1333 ok so here is the ?

I also have laying around a e4500 and e6600 ok hear is the math

e4600 @ 1066 3.2 @ 1333 4.0 <-not gonna happen
e4500 @ 1066 3.0 @ 1333 3.66 <-not likely
e6600 @ 1333 3.0

ok the free 3.2 looks nice but the 6600 has 4meg cach

So Gurus speak away...

Generally you can get a good OC on those chips with a good mobo. Generally the mobos that come with pre-built computers are garbage. I wouldn't expect much out of that thing in terms of OC'ing.

The BSEL mod does not work on all motherboards, and I would expect that a Dell motherboard would not accept the mod, but you can attempt it if you want to.

Good luck on the BSEL mod! Glad to see some ppl. still do it. It may or may not work, just be cause Dell decided to.

Groovy got the BSel working in 5 min running the e4600 runing @ 3.2 ran it through cinebench 10 to give it a burn reboots after 10 min oooh time for volt mod pin thingy I will get back to you. I must say though if I don't torture it it is blazzing fast Oh yah I added 4 gigs of pc6400 ram won't put me in the hall of fame but if I get it stable should be a nice tinker puter.

How odd I looked up the 1.4 volt pin mod to add to the overclock. The odd part is stock I got 1.21 volts @ full load and after the mod I get 1.264 now I'm not complaining it's not 1.4 becouse runnning Cinebench both procs it is now stable just odd next step running memstep 3.5 to see if I can tighten up the timmings well Iwill report if anything good or bad happens half expect it to blow up but hey it was free and I'm having fun... if it doesn't hell I might cram an old 8600gts in it :) Or better yet cram it in a full size case and see what it can do with my 8800GTX. Just so you know this is a chopped p35 ...

Well not sure if anyone is even reading this but I just finished up memstep not bad for crap ram well ended up with timings of 5-4-4-12 from 5-5-5-18 can't change voltage so I think this is good no crashes even ran 3dmark 06 LOL only using the onboard so won't even mention the score LOL... Well here is what I had and what I ended up with

Dell vostro 200 e4600 @ 3.2 4gigs Hynix 5-4-4-12 volt mod runing amazingly stable. I mean really with a deacent video card this could prob kill my gaming PC x2 6000+ 8800GTX... I smell another project. :)

Ok well I did the unthinkable most people in these forums would prob slap me for even suggesting what i did. But I did what i suggested above.... And it came out awsome

Same Vostro 200

Put the MB in an Antec 900 case slapped in a X-Fi Fatality and an 8800 GTX 650 watt power supply and
Updated the bios to a hacked all raid version that allows you to use raid 0. Now I have 3 160gig sata drive in raid 0 450 gigs total.

Vista Bench #

Proc 5.7
Mem 5.6 Aw :(
Vid Aero 5.9
Vid Gaming 5.9
Disk 5.9

3D Mark06 8800GTX Stock 11488
3D Mark06 8800GTX OC 630/1500/1030 score 12230

Well All in all good result will prob game on this PC for a while interesting thing is can take a quad too.

I did this with all parts I had so no cost to me LOL I would never expect someone to throw a 8800GTX on this board but it outdoes my X2 6000+ with the 8800GTX it got 10800 3dmark with the overclocked 8800 so I am happy and all this started with getting a free Vostro 200. Well have fun this would have been a good project it I would have done the BSEL mod and thrown a loprofile 8500 on it nice to see what it can do though.

Yea but if you look at my options I could only bump to 1333 so it would be at 3.0 I would bet at 3.2 the 4xxx series would still beat a 6xxx series at 3.0 ...

So an update to an old thread ... LOL I took a second Vostro 200 did the same BSEL Mod to 3.2 added 4 gigs ram only 667 ram this time but oh well. And I made a Hackintosh. I work on allot of "Real" Macs at work this thing smokes em' kinda fun toy using Kalyway 15.2 about to intall 15.3 works almost 100% only problem I ran into was the Nic I had to chuck in a linksys to get network but other that that I encoded a divx to Ipod movie in 10 min not bad in my book... Need to add video card too it works with the GMA3100 but only res is 1024x768 :( but for the moment I don't have a crap video card better hmmm wonder if my old 7300 LE on the shelf would work.....
