I've never done this before so i appreciate your patience.

I am attempting to remote desktop from my xp machine to my vista laptop. Here is how my network is setup and the computers specs.

System 1:
Desktop
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Hard-wired to router

System 2:
Laptop
Windows Vista Home Premium
Wireless Connection

Router:
Linksys WRT110

Both computers are connected to the internet. They also have printer/file sharing.

I ran a network setup wizard on the xp computer. I then ran the file it produced on the laptop and it was not able to complete. During the wizard i clicked ignore disconnected network hardware when it said the Local Area Network connection was disconnected (b/c it connects to the network wirelessly). When completing the eizard it says an error has occured configuring the network. BUt like i said the printer/file sharing is working.

Anyways, i hope that is enough background info. I am having trouble getting my computers to remote desktop. Wheni browse fro computers in the remote desktop application i get the message. the MSHOME domain/workgroup does not contain any Terminal servers.

Any suggestions?

Well, someone who knows more than I may pop in at some point, but I'll give you what I believe to be most of the problem.

Windows Vista Home Premium doesn't do remote desktop. I believe it will run the connection software (not sure though) but it cannot be configured as a server. The same is true of Windows XP Home edition. (XP Professional can be set up for this). I have no idea whether or not XP media center will... I tried looking on microsoft's website, but couldn't easily find the info.
As for Vista, here are the features of each edition.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi Bryceray,

Media Center is built on the Professional framework and contains all the funcionality of Pro including Remote Desktop, EFS and Domain Networking.

Vista Home Premium does not :(

You can only use Remote Desktop on Business and Ultimate. However there are plenty of programs out there that offer remote desktop services. Lookup VNC and RAdmin.

Although Vista Home Premium ships without Remote Desktop Connection, it can be forcibly enabled.
