I have a 19in Samsung SyncMaster 906bw-widescreen monitor
1.-will dvi cable work on Monitor
2.-should I get SATA Hd & dvd -been reading up on SATA but still not sure how it works do I need 2 harddrives for sata to work.

1. The monitor has d-sub & DVI, so yea, dvi cable will work.

2. No, SATA doesn't have to pair up. Just 1 is fine. Or 1 SATA HDD & 1 SATA DVD. See my sig. If you want to RAID, you will have to buy 2 identical sata hard disks. The mobo manual explains the types & how.

So you have $600 for the whold build? I don't see a gaming video card. You want to use the onboard video for gaming? It can be done, but for $600 you can build a MUCH better gaming pc.

The reviews of the cpu cooler sound like it doesn't fit in some ATX motherboards. If you decide on that micro ATX board, you need to think about getting a different cooler. The onboard graphics of the 780G mobo would be okay for your kids' games, but more graphic intensive ones will need more power. According to this review, it looks like COD4 will be playable on low settings... but it's really at

Here's a build I came up with:

Antec Sonata III w/ 500W PSU: $109.99 -$30 rebate + free shipping (Must purchase by 3/23 for rebate)
GIGABYTE GA-MA69GM-S2H $71.99 + $7.49 shipping (free John Woo's Strangehold game with code on web page)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+: $84.99 + free shipping
8800GS: $139.99 - $30 rebate + free shipping
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800 Cas4: $58.99 - $35 rebate + free shipping (Must purchase by 3/23 for rebate)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB: $79.99 + free shipping
Samsung Black DVD±RW: $23.99 + free shipping
Windows Vista Home Premium: $99.99 -$20 combo deal + free shipping
OKGEAR 6 ft. DVI DIGITAL DUAL LINK CABLE,Black Model GC6DVI2 - OEM: $4.99 + $5.58 shipping
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: $654.91 - $95 rebate + $13.07 shipping = $572.98 + tax if applicable

I added in the 8800GS for better performance in gaming. The 9600GT is more highly recommended, but at a $30-40 premium. To compensate for the video card, I downgraded the processor to a 4800+ and changed the mobo. It's only a small hit, but this retail package also includes a heatsink and will save you money by not having to buy an aftermarket one. As long as you're not overclocking, an aftermarket cooler isn't really necessary anyways.

I changed the case because the Antec Sonata III I listed includes a 500W PSU and has free shipping. Unfortunately, that case and the ram I picked require that you buy the products by tomorrow (March 23) in order to qualify for the rebates.

the reason I ask about dvi cable is there are different dvi cables did some research you have 18+1 pin 24+1 pin dual link mine takes dvi-d

OUSHI- I appreciate your help but I like my MOBO for upgrades down the road and I will definitely go with the 5000+be-
what about MOBO don't you like is it just the graphics. I can put in a good vid card down the road.or is it just not a good MOBO for gaming,
thanks for your help like I said I'am here to learn-probably alot more ?s to come along the way

next dumb ? do I need a front usb cable

Reply to rickf3

The mobo you picked out was great; I've got no problem with it. I was just trying to go a little cheaper to squeeze the video card within your budget since the integrated graphics won't be too hot for stuff like COD4. I still think the retail non-BE 5000+ would be better though, as long as you're not overclocking. It's only 99 cents more than the black edition right now and comes with a stock cooler. Even with the discount, the Rosewill HSF just seems like a waste of money.

What exactly do you mean by needing a front USB cable? Usually the case comes with the cables you'll need to connect all the front i/o stuff to your motherboard.

If the case has a front usb port, the cable is included. Just plug it in one of the usb connectors on the mobo.

OUSHI-thanks I took the Rosewill off my list -will keep looking for a better one-and I will take a look at the non-BE 5000+ but i may want to overclock someday down the road

akhilles thanks I downloaded the MOBO and case manuals now Ihave a better idea of what to do thanks guys

A good, inexpensive CPU cooler would be the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro if you want an aftermarket one.

Looks good although im not sure why you need a 580w power supply. Plus your case appears to be out of stock.

Reply to rozar

I got the 580w PS so if I want to upgrade I'll already have the power to do so.I can get the CASE,MOBO,and Cpu @ eGOODz.com cheaper
and free shipping

Reply to rickf3

Not sure if I would want to buy from egoodz.com considering the horror stories I see about it and the fact that these are high dollar purchases. Resellerratings.com shows a score of 0.36/10... :heink:

The case is $6 more from chiefvalue.com after shipping, the mobo $1.54 more at clubit.com, and the cpu is cheaper at newegg. Maybe you've used egoodz.com before and had great results, I don't know. But based on what I see from googling the company, I would rather spend an extra $10 and buy from reputable stores than risk hundreds of dollars with a notoriously bad one. Caveat emptor.
