Lets just use an off the shelf cheap HP

iPhoto - HP photosmart(comes with ALL hp's) Failing that...paint,preview ect will view and print fine
Garage Band - No clue how many people will use it to be honest.
iMovie - Windows movie maker :p
iTunes - Windows media player(Or Media Center)
iDVD - Windows media player(Or Media Center)
DVD Player - Windows media player(Or Media Center)
Dashboard and all widgets - Start menu
Exposé - Cool, not much use to most users
Front Row - Media Center
iCal - Many options none that i use
iChat - Give me a break
iSync - Sync
Photo Booth - Reminds me of super goo
Quicktime - Media Player
Safari - Internet explorer
Spaces - Nview?
Time Machine - System restore + recycle
Automator - This may be useful, many 3rd party stuff available
(and of course the usual Safari[LISTED], Mail[OUTLOOK], and other standard utility).

So i do not see much extra there

Should i just start listing EVERYTHING that comes with windows?
Maybe even lost all the extras that HP and dell include?
I do not see the base software as being any better on a mac vs windows.

Most computer(a mac is a computer too) users buy software they want anyway. And the piles of free software for windows is massive.

One of the biggest things Apple does that is a REAL piss off is sell separate cables for tv out and extra's(extras you have to pay for on an already expensive machine) like that. just use a standard plug like the rest of the world.

all IMO take it with a bucket of salt...

2 minutes to boot windows xp? Maybe on a PIII with 256MB of ram.

On my Vostro 1400 1.4Ghz C2D w/ 2GB of ram and a 5400RPM HD it took 30 seconds to boot and bring me to the desktop after pressing the power butting. It was not in hibernation/standby mode. It was a hard boot. Did I mention I typed my password in as well? Granted I make sure I trim it down so that only the necessary programs start up.

You either have rarely used a windows xp machine, or are basing your opinion off a school computer. The computers at UNH take forever cause the IT guys are retards and don't know what msconfig is (or services.msc) and use Macafee, which is just as bad as Norton to killing a computer's speed.

A properly setup windows XP should boot in about 30 seconds, including the POST screen.

What is really sad is my XP partition loads faster than my ubuntu one :(.

V8venom, are you calling Sypher a retard?

I was waiting for that, and at 6 pages and counting, I'd say very successful.

Heheh, this site is about building performance computers. We don't mind if you would like to build an Apple clone. Oh wait, you can't. Sorry about your problem, but it was nice meeting you anyway.

Fair enough. While my comparaison was with XP pro which is the OS I use, it is fair to compare the latest Windows with the latest OSX. And I don't know much Vista.

Sure that would be interesting to see that list of softwares that comes with Windows. I know about XP pro, but not about Vista. Let's see if there is a match up in OSX. :)

We know a PC can do it all. My point is, how what exactly a PC can do with this piles of software for windows that a Mac users can't? Yes I guess more choice is better, but at the end, I don't see it as a problem anymore (as it was let's say 10 years ago).

PS. Some precisions here:

-Photosmart and NView are 3rd party software and depend on your specific PC, they aren't standard on all PC or windows installation.
-iDVD is about authoring DVD (I'm not sure you can do that with Windows Media Center, I use Encore on pc).
-To match Time Machine features you need Vista Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise editions.

macintrash aint going to get DX10? Oh no? Well, let me wake you up.
A Mac is capable of running both OS'es? Like I've said. MAc's own almost the same hardware as PC's. Install Vista on it and that will proof that DX10 runs perfect on MACs baby. ;)

ps: I'm glad you didn't call me names yet. ;) wouldn't that look stupid?

If you install Windows on a Mac is it really still a mac or a bastardized PC?

Very True. Also, more users at $100 instead of some at $2000-$4000 means a lot less money.

I want the way too cool Iphone with the non replaceable battery. :pt1cable:

As soon as Apple releases an iphone with a removable battery, and allows drag and drop for music files (meaning no POS itunes files), I will get an ipoone.

Since Apple will NEVER EVER do that, it looks like I am screwed.

At least I can still tease my brother for getting the slow iphone using the edge network :)

I guess you will never be really cool then. I hear that you can replace the battery in the iphone, all you need is a hammer and a flat blade screw driver.

Well some people, lets say my parents buy ONLY hp, so they always get that...for iDVD, my bad.....TMPGEnc is what i use...mostly for its good interlacing options(its gonna be good when the world goes ALL progressive).

At the end of the day. as long as your mac makes you happy.....good...once I looked at the mac mini to play with, but an adapter for tv out(after all, what good is a computer that small if it can not be a DVD player too).....i was like screw that....

No matter what the platform as long as it can what i want to use it all good, but i do use the computer for DVD(and videos)/PVR and games so MCE has been great for that.

Question, why bring up the anti-mac thread? I am not against it, I just did not see that coming.

When it comes to Musicians MAC ownz the PC. Some just can't afford it. No need to get jaleous about it though.

Some things I've noticed at a friends place.
Boot time rocks, Stable, Great multimedia options like Photoshop CS3, Many young people like to make music...told ya, Internet works fine, Office programs work fine, Should I go on? Nah.

XP + Vista costs you over 850 euro's if you'll keep upgrading your OS over 400 euro's each. How much does this upgrading costs you in the long run? :O Yeah, too much indeed. Sure you only buy the cheapest Vista you dont have to tell me. But that would not be a fair comparinson when you put Vista next to Leopard.
Mac's hardware pricing sucks a bit sure but the cheap OS prices like for example 125 euro for Leopard in the long run really pays off.

Sure there are a few hardware problems out there but let's not talk about certain PC CPU air/water coolers shall we? Like how much noise they create or how bad they cool or start leaking etc. We can't have that offcourse.
Yeah, also you can update your PC with a new GPU if you are willing to spend like 600 euros or more if you really want to notice the few extra FPS. Keep updating. Mac's dont need that big hardware to run smooth. Linux (also Unix based) is a great example. It runs great with minimum hardware settings.

Let's just say, MAC AND PC BOTH SUCK. ;)
