Here's the deal:

I installed a new motherboard and did a repair install of media center xp (I reformatted only one partition which had the Windows folder in it, and reinstalled Windows into that folder...). Seemed to go fine...

I tried to connect to the internetbut to no avail. Here's my setup: (Cable wire to a Comcast modem. Cable from Comcast modem to a Netgear Wireless Router: WGT624v3. Ethernet cable from router to my computer.)

It kept saying "Acquiring Network Address" and when I tried to "repair" it said "Windows could not because the following action cannot be completed: Renewing IP address".

I did a little research on this sweet site and went with trying to fix the problem in the services.msc and "Start"ing up the DNS CLinet, the DHCP Client, and the Remote Procedure Call.

Bingo! I was then able to connect.

THEN after restarting the computer I had to do this whole thing all over again...

Question (finally!): What can I do so that I don't have to go to services.msc, etc. EVERYTIME I start the computer to get to the internet?

On a side note, I also think theres a problem with a lot of the programs listed in the services.msc that do not "Start" when the computer starts up. They are listed as Active but I need to Start them up... I'm having difficulty performing the Windows Update (error messages abound), when I click on the 60 days to activate windows yellow balloon at the bottom right it goes away but I don't go anywhere! etc. What could be the problem?

To force services to start everytime your system boots do the following:

Start --> Run
Type in 'services.msc'

Find the services you want to start, double click them and in the 'startup type:' dropdown menu select 'Automatic'.

This will start the service everytime. For the record, manual will only start the service once a specific application has requested a function that relies on that service. Disabled prevents that services from ever starting regardless of whether it is needed or not.

(ie I've disabled the Windows Search in Vista [or XP with desktop search 4.0 installed] to prevent the auto indexer from bringing the system to a halt whenever it kicks in out of knowhere).
