Firefox copied netscape, ya'lls is jellin' netscape4life!!!111!!
Netscape is dead.
Q: What will this mean?
A: We'll continue to release security patches for the current version of the browser, Netscape Navigator until February 1, 2008. After February 1, there will be no more active product support for Navigator 9, or any previous Netscape Navigator browser. This includes Netscape v1-v4.x, Netscape v6, Netscape v7 Suite, Netscape Browser v8, and Netscape Navigator/Messenger 9.
I began using Netscape nearly 15 years ago, when it was a good alternative to M$'s IE. It now longer is a good alternative to anything. I quit using Netscape about a year ago and haven't looked back. There were too many troubles, too many hangs, too much misdirection, well, you get the picture. Even worse, repeatedly there was a loose of all the stored e-mail, accounts, etc.
The action's of Firefox have been somewhat disappointing lately, but its still better in my opinion. Of course, as Firefox moves from being an alternative browser to a mainstream one, it gets more attention from hackers on the bad side, and it needs to pander more to the mainstream users who are not among the computer enthusists.

i don't see how firefox has ever been worthy of being classified as for the enthusiasts. i may be an enthusiast, but i use it because in my opinion it is better than IE. perhaps that message doesn't reach the masses so much as it reaches those enthusiasts who happen to come across such information. this is a matter of advertising though.
personally, i still use 1.5.0.12 . for some reason, i just did NOT like having the X button to close tabs move from the right side to the actual tab. i don't use IE7 and Safari for a REASON. it may be a small one, but that is one of the reasons.

I use a slightly older version of Firefox myself. The reason that I classed Firefox as an enthusiast brower was that was how it started. A lot of people that I've met don't know about it at all. They keep using IE, Netsacpe, AOL, etc, because that's been their habit for many years. Especially for those using Netscape and AOL, they continually complain about problems, but they refuse to consider changing internet services or browsers. Too much work for them, I guess.

i suppose i see your point :-P i'd say with the official 1.0 release, it was certainly worthy of being called a mainstream user's browser. as for such people you know, well, you know, that's due to lack of advertising, and they're set in their ways...

Hello everyone I am new here, 1st post!
I use SeaMonkey
It is also a part of the Mozilla project. And it has the mail client in it like Netscape used to have years ago. I use it for my mail client.
I remember Netscape 3.1 gold, was one of the best Netscapes they made.
SeaMonkey works great, try it.

Yeah, I remember those days, about 15 years ago. After Time/AOL bought Netsacpe, things started going downhill.

Must be your CPU is over heating.
My Fire Fox has never crashed, and has been running for more then 9 days straight.
I was proud of my 486 with Windows 3.1 for Workgroups and my Netscape browser. Look how much times have changed.
It's sad to see Netscape go.

I never understood the "official" Netscape releases, they were just branded Mozilla versions really, and being free I'm not sure what value was there.
More importantly though, the announcement means the end of the unofficial support of Mozilla from Netscape's developers.
AOL bought Netscape for the Netcenter traffic, never seeming to realize that it was it being the browser's default homepage that drove the traffic. By declaring in official channels in 1999 that they weren't in the software development business and had no interest in it, they chose their direction.

I just choked on my drink again. That isn't going to die is it? I hear Firefox needs a new patch to work with the 8400.
Eternal, you might as well just make a new account now.
