Hi im building me a new sytem and am new too it. So id like to know in this board right here;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813188024

It says;

Memory Standard
DDR2 1200/1066/800/667MHz
DDR2 1200 is O.C. speed

So if i get DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) it wont run at that speed? or how does it work? or do i have to get DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500). And overclock too 1200MHz?

You have to overclock the processor to get any higher than your 667MHz FSB (front side bus). Lets say for now that you get the Intel E8400 with a stock speed is 3.0GHz which gives you a FSB of 333MHz and a rated FSB of 1333MHz. Your RAM is now running at DDR2 667MHz, if you want to run it faster than DDR2 667MHz then you need to overclock your processor.

My overclocked E6600 is running at 3.2GHz (800MHz above stock) with a FSB of 400MHz quad pumped give me a rated FSB of 1600MHz. Now I can run my memory at DDR2 800, or 1200MHz, because now my processors front side bus is higher I can select a higher DRAM speed.

Remember when overclocking you need a power supply that can handle even more abuse, use this PSU calculator below to find out how much your going to be needing.

Ouch, :ouch: Coolmaster is a Tier 4 - Not Recommend With Tier 3 In same Price/Wattage Range

I would never use that in my rig even if it were free! :ouch: Its not that it don't have the power, its about the quality parts (lack of) that aren't use and the amount of ripple current that shortens the life of every components.

Theres nothing wrong with teir 2 though, teir 1 just has gobs of power for major stability. I think My Enermax Infiniti 720W is tier 2 meaning its just doesn't have the raw power that tier 1 has. I wish I had gone with the Enermax Galaxy 1000W. :( AAh is just money right, now I feel better. :) You should be fine with a Corsair 620WHX or higher rated tier 2 which is tier 1 quality second in stability giving it the tier 2 rating. PC&P Cooling is very good quality also, but pricier.

The quality of the PSU you get determines how long your components will last, ripple is the killing factor in every case.

Have a look here, its a great PSU review site. >> http://www.jonnyguru.com/index.php

Regarding the OP's original question, that spec just means that since there is no official DDR2-1200 speed spec, running at that speed has to be called "overclocking". However, the MB maker is saying that the MB will handle that speed. This is similar to buying factory-sanctioned-overclock RAM -- RAM that requires a higher-than-standard voltage to reach its spec speed/timings.
