My younger bro is planning to buy a Q6600 with a limited budget...so basically a cheap mobo...

He really wants to build a lan rig..but money is a MATTER...

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R too expensive for the budget!
GA-G31MX-S2
GA-965GM-DS2

he's not gonna OC....
assuming a Q6600 @ stock, with either of these 3 mobo, 2GB Geil DDR2800, Radeon 3850 512MB...

does it differ in performance when using an older mobo or older chipset @ stock cpu performance...???

Is this for gaming?

If So, he should consider the E8400 that ships next week.
It will be about $60-$70 cheaper than the Q6600 and run most games better.

(It will be a Dual-Core running @3.0Ghz, but is about 5-10% faster due to improvements so it's really like 3.2Ghz or so.

That $60 Should let him get a Decent Motherboard and maybe a better GPU.

If you can swing the $30 until the rebate somes in, this is a GREAT! board for the money.

yes mainly for his gaming needs but my bro also is fond of video creation, editting and encoding...he insisted on a quad that will last him a max of 2yrs or so...

OK, stick with the Quad Then.
However, The Mobo above is a steal with the rebate.
Lend him the $30 if need be.

Why not P35? A Gigabyte P35 board costs no more than 100 bucks.

EDIT:
My bad, I didn't realize the cost of a G31MX is cheaper than Gigabyte P35.

However, you should also consider this, by Abit.

------------------------------ Intel will not take the top spot, or probably the top 3 spot back for the forseeable future. Not even with 32nm and more cores will intel be able to beat Jaguar. - JennyH the AMDiot, Nov 2009

yes....price...and aside from the price...a P35 wouldn't fit into a lan rig....Q-pack2 IMO...

I'm sure a P35 would fit into the new MACBOOK AIR! .76" thick at its bigest point and going to be very popular in the Midle East where it will be marketed as the MACBOOK AIR JORDAN. Im so blown away by this anouncement that I am either gonna erect a statue of Steve Jobs in my front yard or Im gonna go back to sleep. ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz...

Sorry for the bubble toast but Paul O just came up on stage with Jobs to take a bow for designing a C2D thats flater than a cat under a steamroler. I wonder if hes gonna thank his family, his friends and Hector for handing him the CPU market on a silvre plater! :)

Edit: Randy Newman? Who gives a damn about Randy Newman! Show me a quad socket 3.2 Xeon 45nm MacPro with 32GB RAM and 1TB solidstate drives for $1799! Not your crappy thin flat notebok thats gona bend like a boomereng the first time you drop it! Jobs, your boring me to death! You only make fashon acesories for rich yupies! Your runing a computer company, not Dolce and Gabana!
