Yes, I fixed the speghetti after the shot

Picture is from my MotoRokr Z6, so the quality sucks  I sneaked away long enough to buy all the crap and put them together, but got 3 reports due soon so I won't bother trying to install OS or try to OC it yet

I wasn't even born then 0____0"

I really really want to OC with it, but don't have videocard yet, and I don't feel like tearing down my current box with the GTS, gotta work on the reports and all. Nor use the 76gt that is laying around. Ah well. So much for getting the E8400 early :p

Look at how cute the boxed cooler is. Box of cancersticks for size reference.

Edit2: Dug out my old boxed cooler for my e6300 :o

Wow that's small! I guess these new 45nm chips really must run cool :)

Awesome CPU! :) The new fan is interesting - it shows that the CPUs have a really low power usage. My E6300 came with the copper base fan, and my E2140 came with the same size fan -it had an aluminum base. This new fan seems to be a smaller version of the all aluminum fan.

Hmm... looks like Im not gonna need a Tuniq Tower or U120eX on mine! Very impresed! This E84 rocks!

AMD4LIFE... oh... sorry... still hungover from last nite. :)

Edit, also does it look like the fan blows down onto the HSF?

Nice! Watch out for the people on this forum. They'll tell you that you don't in fact actually have the CPU yet because it's not officially released and so on..... Tell us how it all goes :)

Word of advice don't put the 8xxx CPU cooler on the E6xxx/Pentium 4/D (?) CPUs, the E6xxx will probably over heat. But you can use a E6xxx stock fan on the E8xxx.

Sorry you cant bring it below zero C without LN2 or dry ice. As for a PD it would probably last, because the CPU will shut itself down before any thing RALLY bad happens

I tried using the latest version of CoreTemp, but it isn't reading the temperature correctly. I don't know whether it is X64 or it doesn't like the new stepping. It shows 35c/44c.When I load down the processor with some Winrar multithread benchies, the temperature doesn't change on the 2nd core. So I am gonna nuke and throw windows 32bit on it a little later. I don't have anything installed besides driver anyways. Running opera from thumb drive :D

That's the 2nd time I've read that people think its.... cute?

I can see it now... Hey, I just got my E8xxx... and it's idling at 65C.. is dat too hot? Could it be that my HSF is too small?

Man... wonder how hot that thing could get with a Tuniq on a E8xxx. o O (you got a blanket handy?)

Well mine is idling along at 22 degrees C according to speedfan.

Reply to 306maxi

speedfan needs a + 15c offset if the cpu has a Tjunction(MAX) of 100c

Unless you have the beta....it will be fixed in the next release

Coretemp says 40/41 for the cores. But it's running on a desk so I'll check again when I actually put it in my P180 tonight.

Whelp.. since your talking Tcase (22C) that can be wrong.

For example, my Tcase was saying 19C (and I'm using a Tuniq) when the ambient temp of my PC case was 28-29C. Now how could that be? Simple answer... my tcase sensor not calibrated right.

Chances are better that the digital sensors are closer for the cores, or tjunction.

Rather. Not sure why I was so silly enough to believe that temp when there's a fire on in this room and the ambient temp is 21 :)

As with the P5B in the other room it (speedfan) reports over 100 degrees for "aux" :??:

How do you measure your ambient temps btw?

This was the thread I created a while back with CompuTronix giving advice on calibrating my temps on my E4400:

E4400 Tcase Temp

Ya... heh speedfan will detect what it can.. and what it does detect may not mean anything when it says somthing is at 100C or -100C

Edit:

Opps forgot to mention I use an IR Thermometer for my ambient temps.

306maxi:
Do you mind running something that loads down both cores?

I am still having trouble with CoreTemp. It is still reading 36/44. I tried loading the CPU down again for 30 minutes, it reads 42/44. Very odd. SpeedFan shows no core temperature for me. Color me confused :)

SpeedFan shows my P-D 915, stock everything including HSF idlng at 58C at 21 C ambient. I dont know what the load temp is as if I were to run a 24 hour test Id likely melt the case. :)

It's ranging from 50-53. Just using two instances of Prime95.

Reply to 306maxi

I wounder if you need to now take 15c from it. I have a Q6600 OC'ed to 3GHz(finally just upped the FSB to 333MHz and the voltage to only 1.275 yay!!!! only cuz 1.235 wouldn't cut it) and its idle 40c CPU(core 0,1,2,3: 35c,35c,30c,30c respectively) and under load still doesn't hit much over 51c. And thats Prime95 for 1-2 hours straight.

Or maybe its just my roxor Zalman CPNS9700 LED. The LED adds uberness to it. :P

I just wanna see how well it OC's in comparison to the E6850.

This is normal no need to worry about it. If the temps are correct that is one cool CPU.

thanks 306maxi and shadow.
I am not particularly worried about the temperature. I was just wondering why 1 core's temperature sensor reading doesn't change :) I almost want to suspect my CPU cooler mounting, but if that core's temperature doesn't change at all, it seems unlikely :\ May be it is just a borked sensor or CoreTemp doesn't like my CPU mobo combo :D

BTW, my B2 E6300 is cooler running than the E84 @ idle. I turned off the OC and turned on SpeedStep. Now E63 runs @ 34C, and 47ish under full load :p

^Could be that the sensors are dead since these are just off the production line. You might want to check actual temps with a thermometer.

Sooo they released an E8400... Cool.. WHEN ARE THEY RELEASING THE NEW Q9XXX CPU's I'm Dying waiting for thoes things lol.

I like the Q6600..... But I want a Q9XXX (Price and Multiplier Depending) I'm going to continue with my current watercooling setup and get that puppy into a happy place with 2 3870X2's WOOHOO!

There are still rumors of Yorkies to come with the Wolfies on Monday. A couple of guys around here swear that they are comng. We'll wait an see!

Shadow: That is what I am concluding too, seeing that 306maxi isn't seeing a stuck temperature on the 2nd core. Ah well, I'll just stick this on my 2nd box when Yorksfield comes. This is just a stopgap anyways :D

On the Yorkies note, my retailers still doesn't have them. They had the Wolfies on sale since Jan8th... So it seems unlikely they are going to be released on the 20th.

The worst thing about that, is nobody seems to know when they will actually be released! I feel bad for everyone who is starving for the Q9's. Will they come out in early Feb? Late Feb? Late March?..... Sheesh, not gona be a fun wait at all.
Maybe intel will delay them until the 45nm Phenoms are almost apon us lol.

Just an update. Q9450 showed up at my retailer. I am gonna go check it out next week. :D Yorkfield should be officially launched VERY VERY soon.

[thinking out loud]
I thinking about getting another Core2, though I not sure about the Q9450. I'll have lots of left over parts when I upgrade my junks next week, including a 88GTS when I get 98GTX or GTS. Thinking about a mATX system in Ibox by I-Cute that I can stash at the lab. My choices are an E85 or of course the Q94 to replace my E84 with DTS bug (E84 to HTPC/server, E63 to new comp), and Q66 for the HTPC. The 45nm choices obviously need to wait until I can confirm no DTS bug :) All I need to buy is just the CPU, mobo, and case plus other planned upgrades of course (98GTX, 4G of ram for HTPC, 2x640G HD). This will be another fun portable gaming mATX :D My last one was an A64 3700+ @ 2.5, Biostar T-Force 6100-939, EGVA 78GT CO in a X-Qpack, built in 2k4.
Should cost me about 1200 bucks. My pocket book has been pretty well abused lately ;o~~
