Before you read any of this, I must have you experts know that I only have basic knowledge on all of the components in the computer and so if I do make mistakes, misinterpret any of your responses, I totally apologize.

Now onto the computer, in my opinion its a very decent gaming computer, all I wanted was a medioce-high level computer which will not be obsolete in a year or 2. My budget is set at $1100 CA (Canadian dollar is almost on par with American so not such a big problem their). Well here are the specs:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

*This was a huge problem for me, I was wondering if I should just wait it out for the Penyrn Quad since its coming out very very soon, as far as I know...I can honestly wait but I just dont want to have to find out that it gets delayed and I than force myself into waiting more, and more, etc., etc.*

Chipset: XFX nForce 780i SLI Motherboard

*I have been having some thoughts about getting this mobo or not, im most definetly am not going to use SLI anytime soon since it seems completely useless and I dont have that kind of money to spend on getting 3 8800GT/GTS, so any suggestions on a decent Nvidia/Asus mobo preferably, other company types are also a help*

RAM: 1G x4 OCZ Technology PC3200 Revision 2 DDR RAM

HD: 500GB/16MB/SATA2/7200/WD

Graphics card: Nvidia GF-8800GTS/16x/320MB/DDR3/DX10

*Man did I have an all out war on myself with this choice...I was either going to go ati HD RADEON 3870 or 8800GT/GTS, im still competing with the idea of having the 3870 instead of the 8800GT, they both are almost similiar although the GT beats it by a few frames and a bit of performance, any suggests would be sooooooo much help! :??: *

Tower: NZXT-NZXT-APOLLO Gaming Chassis only; 2x 12cm rear chassis fan

Power supply: Antec-Antec Basiq 500W Power Supply

*Not sure if I need more power/better supply, suggestions welcomed :D !*

Audio card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music

So thats basically it. All I have left to say is, help me out please :D! Thanks a bunch.

Mo3,
i would personally go with the 8800 gt for overall performance/ price combo. it sounds like a pretty good setup so far although i would consider upping the psu to around 800 if you plan on making upgrades in the future:)

I thought I should just stick with 8800GT since theres not much of a performance difference, but a big difference in a price. I had a feeling that I would need a stronger power supply, any advice on a choice? Does penryn only take DDR3? If it does...that sucks since DDR3 isn't a huge thing right now, imo. 2G sticks, makes sense. Sweet thanks a lot guys, this definetly helps a lot! Btw if anyone has any ideas, but is the 780i mobo worth it or shall i go lower or a different type? Thanks a bunch, specifically MrsBytch and dwthor2

If your not planning on getting 45nm than dont bother with DDR3 or 768Mb video card.

Putting the newest technology together brings the performance out of your system:

+ Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (45nm)

+ 4GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3

+ Nvidia GF 8800 GTX/ULTRA

+ Asus P5E3 Deluxe

+ Windows Xp Professional

Xp is currently much better than Vista in GAMES and overall for me, Unless your planning on getting a 30" monitor than I'd get Vista.

I/m putting all these into my new gaming system, and its going to own.

This will give you a powerful gaming power house.

This is one of the funniest threads I've seen in this forum so far. The OP has a budget of $1100 and you guys are suggesting QX9650 which costs more than that all alone. He says he doesn't want SLI and you are telling him to get a more powerful PSU so he can do SLI. :pt1cable: OK, enough whining, let's see if I can help a bit.

@OP:
Q6600 - smart idea; if necessary cut back to E6750
780i - bad idea; overkill, too expensive, new (still buggy) technology.
RAM - you need DDR2-800 or at least DDR2-667. I'm assuming you won't overclock. Also, get 2x2GB.
HDD - The 750GB WD disk (WD7500AAKS) is much faster than the 500GB thanks to a new technology called PMR.
Graphics card: HD 3850, HD 3870, 8800 GTS G92 512 MB, in order of price and performance. Get the one you can afford from this list. Do not get the 8800GT, it's got problems because of the crappy cooler.
Case/PSU: Sonata 3 comes with a good PSU and you save a lot. It's also very quiet.
X-Fi: good choice.

Here's an example: (from www.shoprbc.com)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB/1066FSB S775 CPU, Retail $298.00
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L S775 P35 ATX (Audio/GbE,Optical Out $103.00
OCZ Vista-Upgrade 4GB DC PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory Kit $136.00
WD SATAII 750Gb 7200RPM 16Mb Hard Drive, 3Yr $177.00
Asus DRW-1814BLT 18x DVDRW SATA Lightscribe Drive, Black $38.00
Asus Radeon HD 3870 512MB PCI-E Video Card, Retail $257.00
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Music, Varpak $84.00
Antec Sonata Plus 550 Mid Tower Case w/550Watt $166.00
Total: $1259.00

You can save the $84 from the X-Fi if you have to, just use onboard audio until you save more money.
