Hello, I was thinking of replacing my 1900xt crossfire with just one ATI 2900xt 1GB, but would i lose any performance at all? and would a Thermaltake Tough power 750w be strong enough to run two 2900xt in crossfire mode? bearing in mind there the 1GB cards, Thanks

1. Two X1900 XT's in crossfire are probably close in performance to a single 2900 XT in many games, possibly even better in some. Don't think that's an upgrade that's worth it.

2. Yeah, a good 750w should be fine for two 2900 XTs.

Just buy two 3850's and run in crossfire. Better value in my opinion.

Pretty sure a 750W can handle two 2900's just fine.

*edit* Also, what are your system specs so we can get a better idea of whether or not you'll see any performance increase from your cards. (Mainly - what is your CPU?)

thanks for the quick replies =)

I got...

Asus M2R32 MVP motherboard
2GB DDRII 6400 (might get another 2gb if its worth it)
Creative Sound Fatal1ty soundcard
2 1900xt Crossfire
AMD 4800 duel core 1MB level 2 cache
Vista Ultimate x64

think that about covers it...

What resolution do you play? I'm assuming your rig is all about gaming... so what kind of games do you play?

If you can afford it, you could go the following route:

Get an Athalon 6400 or 6000+ (You should see a noticeable increase in frame rates, especially around 1280x1024 resolutions)

Go for another 2GB of RAM since you have the 64bit OS.

Go dual 3850's in crossfire.

Wouldn't bother upgrading to two 3850's in crossfire if 1280x1024 is the target resolution, and if his target resolution is high enough to utilize the power of those cards, the CPU will matter hardly at all because the graphics cards will be the bottleneck.

That's why I was trying to figure out what he was playing at, so I could see whether he'd utilize SLI / Crossfire at all.

thanks for all the replies, i play at 1650x1050 on games like call of duty 4 (all settings to max and it laggs a bit which gave me the idea for an upgrade) will wanna play crysis on it soon too, i normally play first person shooters and RST, processor and memory upgrade looks like a good choice aswell :)

Ah, yeah. Crossfire is for you then. :p I think you'd see a bigger performance boost and maybe get a longer life before needing to upgrade again with 3870HD's or 3850HD's. The RAM will help quiet a bit with RTS's (especially w/ Supreme Commander)
