It's nice to see a game playable with a normal budget build!

They did a very nice job.

yea my rig runs 50 - 80 fps in multiplayer depending on the situation with 1680x1050 res with everyone on and AF half way up, but no AA (on my 20" LCD @ 1680x1050 I dont need it to much, but it would be nice). in SP I run everything the same, but run @ 1440x900 because it gets alot more choppy in certain outdoor missions. I suppose this is because I am stressing it abit more with the extra people I have to render being bots instead of other actual people. I love every aspect of th game.

Edit: I thought I would mention that this is in windows vista!

Best,

Good news.

I just picked up the game last night. I'll install in tonight if I have time and post my FPS's

Is there a built in benchmark?

Since when is an 8800GTX in a normal budget build?

Reply to hostyle

What settings would you recommend for my machine?

Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66Ghz
3GB DDR2-667
Geforce 8600GT 256mb GDDR3
22" LCD running 1680x1050 in Vista
Vista 32bit

I'd like to play in widescreen. What rez and settings would you suggest?

That was kinda my first thoughts, I would call the OP's rig with 64bit OS, an e6600, 8800gtx, and 4 gig of memory a pretty high end system in my book!

Well to be honest, play on your normal resolution (1680x1050) - make sure you have it on 60hz or whatever your native refresh rate is and change the aspect ratio to 16:10 (all these settings are in the graphics menu in the game). This way if you play multiplayer, you wider field of vision is an advantage over most of the players.

In the texture settings though, you might have to put the textures down to Bilinear rather than the default auto as with your card, you'll suffer a bit on multiplayer with that resolution.

OMG I LOOOVE THIS GAME!!!

hahaha :D

specially multiplayer. Its very nice indeed!

I get about 50-70 fps on average through out the game, lowest point hitting 32 and highest being well over 200. In game settings @ 1280x1024 with everything set on high (or on, or normal depending on the options), 2x AA and the slider bar half way for AF..dunno what that corresponds to exactly.

my rig:

E6600
x1950 pro
2gig DDR2 ram
250 gb hdd
win xp

My plan is to buy Crysis for $39.99 at circuit city and use the free $10 gift card I get with it to immediatly buy COD4 also on sale for $39.99. SO basically $70+ tax for crysis and COD4.

If they have COD4 in stock that is.

I went to Circuit City to pick one up yesterday and they had none! I paid $49 at best buy right across the street. Best buy also carried a collectors addition with a manual. Also had some other features like an actual "walk through". $10.00 extra.

It could just be my Circuit City, but they seem to cater to the game consoles and carry very few PC games.

This game is sweet! I think the graphics are great, and it plays really smooth with everything as high as I can set it (4xAA, 2xAA in multiplayer). Almost got Gears of War instead, but they didn't have it in the store when I picked this up (first day it was out!).

Hey 3Ball, just wondering which catalyst drivers you are using. I'm trying to get rid of bog downs and was thinking it might be the drivers.

Bestbuy would have matched the $40 price if you had taken a CC ad with you. I'm hoping to have both games by tomorrow night.

I plan on paying $5 and 2 beers to the neighbour kid to mugg you on the way out of the store. $8 for Crysis and COD4. :kaola:

only played demo but I guess results in retail should be similar

C2D T5500 (1.66GHz), 2 GB RAM 667, ATi Mobility Radeon x1600, Win XP SP2 Pro

native res of my laptop is 1280x800 and I played it in this settings with pretty much everything maxed except of course for AA and shadows. framerate above 25fps 99% of the time, very playable. I must admit that I was very shocked seeing such a great looking game run pretty smooth on such system. still - gonna buy a laptop with 8800M GTX as soon as I can find one that is not XPS/Alienware ;)

1. Go into the console by pressing the tilde key "~"
2. Type "/cg_drawfps 1" without the quotes

To disable, open up the console again and type "/cg_drawfps 0"

AHHH, nothing says "PLEASE home land security, look at everything I do for the next 2 years of my life" like doing business with someone in Iran.

Nothing personel, just the facts in todays troubled times.

LOL, well let me tell ya they would have been in for a good fight tonight. I just got back from CC after spending 30 minutes in there to get the game. First they had 20 copies of Crysis but took 15 minutes to locate them. Second they were trying to screw me on the price. I had preordered the game on Sunday but didn't open the preorder box. The two guys that helped me on it said the game is $39.99 and you get a $10 gift card, and I'd get the $10 I paid for the preorder box off the total. Seems simple enough, but not at circuit city. The girl first tried to tell me my $10 preorder goes toward buying the gift card so I stil owe $39.99+tax. So after not being able to explain how illogical that was, I said lets just return the preorder (i didn't open it) and pretend I am a new customer here. She then tried to tell me that I pay $39.99 for the game but must purchase the gift card for $10. In the end I asked to see a manager who corrected the price and I paid $39.99, got a $10 free gift card, and put that towards COD4 like I planned. But had anyone tried to get that bag from me on the way to my truck after my past 30 minute struggle, they better have had a gun or been prepared for the pummeling of their life. Then again, it's not wise to get between Canadians and their beer either right. lol

Anyway, it seems CC either screwed up their ad or their pricing in the system as the folks a [H] have found out too. Some people get it for the price I paid no hassle, others need adjustment like me, and still others are paying $49.99 and getting the gift card.

Interesting story pauldh. Let me throw mine into the mix. I had pre-ordered Crysis from Best buy mostly because of the rewardzone points. I had used a $5 reward zone coupon to purchase the pre-order. I stopped in at Best buy to pick up my copy around noon. No one seemed to have a clue what Crysis even was. After about 10 minutes of employees asking other employees, it was determined that the game had not arrived yet. They told me to come back after 2:00 which was after the truck would come. I came back around 5:00 eager to get my hands on the game. Again I was met with the same confusion. No one knew where the game was. After about 10 Minutes I was informed that the game had not arrived and that I would have to wait for the next truck to arrive which would be on Saturday. I said that was too long. I then called Game stop while in the store to confirm if they had any copies left. They did and I proceeded to ask for a refund of my pre-order so I could buy the game elsewhere. They agreeded and I recieved $5.30 back and now I have to wait for another $5 reward zone gift card to come in the mail before I can use it again.

Lesson learned: Never pre-order anything from Best Buy.

bummer for you. I like CC better for games because they are almost always $5-15 off at launch. Bestbuy around here seems to get them on the shelves earlier but also seems to have them at list price all the time. So if I preordered, it would be from ebgames for reliability sake, or CC for pricing sake, but not BB.

Quote :

Yeah, I got the same treatment at CC where 2 out of 3 didn't have a clue and the third was a pcgamer himself. The shift supervisor or whatever he was said I don't think it's out for PC yet. generic response I guess. I should have asked him to go hunt me up a PS3 or 360 version then, lol. It seemed lightbulbs went on when I showed them the store ad though.

That sucks man.

Usually I pre-order games I really REALLY like, and this is one that was a contender. But really I wasn't sure about performance on the laptop so I waited. I pre-ordered, UT2K4, D3, HL2 and Oblivion as my last games. Crysis almost got added to that list (as did Halo3), but in the end I decided that there isn't a major "must have version of the game" unlike the previously "rare" DVD-editions. I expect these will all be DVd, and I don't need coins, backstory, etc.

I'll probably pick up this weekend if I'm not skiing at Sunshine :sol:

Since I don't have spanking new gear (want new boots, another pair of skiis and a new pair of bib pants) quite yet, I have lotsa disposable funds left for games, of course I'd prefer to go and buy games across the border in US funds rather than pay more in Canadian funds, :pfff: but I won't be in the states for another month, and then I'll be looking at all my gear purchases including a new camera so games will go bye-bye not buy-buy for about 4-6 months.

In some parts of COD4 it needs more than 256mb of vram other wise it wouldn't get choppy with your card.

I just finished playing CoD4.. Great game except for the fact that grenades and bullets come out of nowhere (from directions where no enemy can be) and you have to charge to your next waypoint before the never-ending supply of enemies ceases. This is exactly the same way CoD2 was. Still a good game. Played it through on hardened and don't want to imagine what Veteran is like.

Reply to timinator

Just finished it yesterday. It is a great looking game and plays fine on lan across three machines of different vintages. This is now going to be my regular "ready to go" lan game whenever friends or family are over. It is still a great looking game on the old p4 6800gt machine at 1024x768. Try that with Crysis.
After seeing my 9yr old son blow through it in two days I played it on hard. It made the last two, time limited levels very hard. I can't imagine how anyone could finish epilogue on veteran. The time limit goes from something like 1:40 to 1:00 against harder enemies. Even on hard it took me like 5 or 6 tries.

I really didn't get into cod2 but despite being short this is easily the best game I've played this year. You have to love the variety of levels and play styles it throws at you. They did a great job of mixing things up so it doesn't feel like some games where each level is just more of the same.

I find it hard to believe, but I install this on my Athlon 2800, 1 gig of memory, and a 9600xt. It would not boot because of a iw3mp.exe error.
I moved the mssmp.asi file from COD2 to COD4 and it started up and ran good on medium setting @ 1024x758

Reply to rdb

I really can't wait to play the game. Doesn't sound like my rig is going to have any trouble at all.
