I'd prefer ATI as their image quality is a lot better. They also release their drivers monthly which is very good, Nvidia used to be woeful at this but seem to be copping on now a bit.
At present I'm using an Nvidia card, my last card was also a Nvidia 7950GX2, previous cards then was ATI's X1900XTX, X1800XTX, X850XT-PE/9800 Pro.
But overall if they both had the same specs I'd plump for ATI

Nvidia doesn't have image quality issues anymore with the 8 series though lol So it doesn't really affect me or future Nvidia 8 series owners.

I have to disagree with that statement.

That statement makes the assumption that the image quality Nvidia's Next Gen cards got better while ATI's Next gen cards remained the same with zero improvement. How realistic is that?

Do you think ATI make no efforts to improve their next generation visuals also?

Its making an unfair comparison. It is comparing the image quality of Nvidia's Next Generation 8 series cards against ATI's Last Generation X1k series cards. Comparing stream processors to pixel shadders. Next Gen vs Previous Gen.

ATI has always had better visuals than Nvidia.
The image quality Nvidia's next gen 8 series cards just now caught up with ATI's last generation X1K cards.

ATI just raised the bar again with their HD 2k cards. I have seen several reviews on newegg where previous 8800 owners were impressed by how much better the HD 2900 visuals looked.

Compare apples to apples. Next Gen vs. Next Gen. Nvidia moved forward, ATI moved forward

Yes, the 2900 is not the most power efficient thing, however it was rushed to market before it was ready and it's development got hampered by a merger with AMD.

The HD2950Pro and XT Models coming this November look outstanding. Half the power consumption of the current 2900 cards manufactured at 55nm. They are going to be what the 2900 was really suppose to be. A real barn burner. They even have a GX2 model with 2 GPUs on it that will still use less wattage thant he current 2900s.

NVidia is not going to be able to release their response to the 2950s until January or Feburary per this article: http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php? [...] &Itemid=34 and they are going to be built on the 65nm process. Which indicates Less energy savings, more heat than ATIs 55nm cards which will be out 2-3 months earlier.

8800s cashed in last Christmas. I think the HD2950s are going to cash in this Christmas. Less power consumption, less heat, better visuals, more overclocking headroom, better price. It is going to put ATI back on top.

I am an AMD/ATI Fan Boi and am proud of it.

There both great graphics cards but I'll say this, NVidia seems to stay on top most of the time. NVidia was first for SLI dual graphics cards, first for DX10 cards and first cards to support HDR. Just look at who's kicking the pants off ATI for the past 8 months. This is a fact Jack.

Your telling us that ati is releasing a card that competes with the 8800 1 YEAR after the 8800 was release and ur saying that makes them better???? dude do u listen to what ur saying? It would be embarrasing if they didn't beat the 8800s 1 year later LMAO. BTW i didn't say ati didn't improve on their image quality I just said they're not beating nvidia anymore:)
Your also telling us that the video cards were rushed? So ur saying they sold us crap at our own expense? THey sold us stuff that weren't complete? Thats not very nice of them now is it?

YOU JUST KILLED ATI IN YOUR OWN REPLY LMAO do u kno how embarrasing it is to state that an unfinished product was released at full price:)

THE 2950s BETTER BE BETTER THAN THE 8800s or else I'm off ATI for ever.

P.S
Nvidia is coming out only 1-2 months later? You think they wont better? :)

I used to ATI all the way but I bought NVIDIA first time as soon as 8800GTX came out and IT'S A BEAST! High end performance I go with Nvidia.
