Prices?
that was my first thought to
I am really looking forward to seeing how this stacks up to the competition. I hope they are out in time for x-mas and have some reasonable prices. Also, does anyone know anything of a die shrink? I mean they did increase the clock speed on an already power hungry and hot running card. Thoughts?

Considering AMD/ATI's past record, MY first question is : Will it ship on time?
Probably, its basically just r600 with a die shrink. SHould kick-ass though. DUal card will kick 8800ultra ass. Probably in power heat and performance benches. 90nm ultra vs 55nm rv670, 55nm FTW!

i think it s 55nm. now we begin to talk

In the following quote they are talking about two RV670 versions, the XT and PRO, anyways the TDPs are only 132W and 104W respectively. Other info are similar to the digitimes info though..
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,6873.html
Quote : In about one and a half month, mid-November-ish, ATI will unleash the graphics circuit RV670. This chip is made using TSMC's 55 nm manufacturing process and will have a much lower power consumption than the current high-end card from ATI. There will be two different cards based on the RV670 core, RV670 XT and RV670 Pro, and they will have GPU frequencies of 825 MHz and 750 MHz respectively. Where RV670 XT will have 1.2 GHz GDDR4 memory, while RV670 Pro has to settle for 900 MHz GDDR3 memory. This will result in a total TDP of 132 W for the RV670 XT and 104 W for the RV670 Pro. This is pretty much a reduction by 50 % of the 240 W the R600 produces.
Supposedly a dual card coming out early next year too, cant sya id be surprised tahts probably the best thing they could do with only a 104watt TDP. Octo Xfire anyone.
No idea what advantages itll bring tho lols... 4way AFR with 2 cards running split frame rendering at the time?

The rumor I've heard is a dual-core R670XT.
The 2600 X2 which sounds like horrible times 2!
lol at 'Gladiator' and 'Revival'
can wait to see how this shapes out to be
Hmm, should I get 2900pro here soon, or wait the extra month and a half till 2950 models?......
wait! Dx 10.1 calls for "free 4xaa" so we shouldent be seeing a performance hit from now aa to 4xaa anymore i guess.

The 2950 will be an improved product but around that same time frame it I believe Nvidia will be releasing the 9800GTX and GTS. The HD 2950 however should be much cheaper than the 9800s which should give it marketability. I do like the fact that it is a lot less power hungry.
Isn't this a quick release for a XX50 series? The 2900 Pro comes out in September then about 45 days later the 2950 Pro is scheduled for release?
How long did it take for the 1950 Pro to come out after the 1900 series was released?
Gladiator, Revival.....
These are "good" cards, but yeah the problem is that Nvidia will probably have "GREAT" cards released by then.
For me, it all comes to whatever offers the better bang for the buck. =D
2950 pro 256mb $399?
2950 pro 512mb $449?
2950 xt 512mb $549?
Any guesses anyone?

Seems about right. But, I can't help but htink the HD2950 will be cheap. I mean, it's using smaller componets and such so technically speaking it shoudl cost less raw material to make; thus making it cheaper. But who knows. I'm buying an HD2900 Pro next week though, so it's all good. =)
I can't see a 2950 Pro 512MB being $449. An XT maybe but not a Pro.
I think the 2950 Pro is going to be similarly priced to a 2900 Pro
the cost is determined by the demand
count me in for a gladiator if it s priced nicely!
Considering that the Nvidia9800 will be unleashed at the same time I think the price is going to be held in check.
What makes me wonder is where's the HD2950 XT at? And where's that infamous XTX versiono f the HD2900 that we were told would become available later on? Hmmm....I think we ought to see good prices if those cards come out. Either way though, I'm wondering how PCI-Express 2.0 will bench against the standard we all use now. The same applies to DirectX 10.1
That brings up a good point.
I thought I heard somewhere that ATI was going to skip over the XTX verison of the 2900 and release it as a 2950XTX.
Can anyone validate that?
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the prices on these new cards would be much lower then what you listed lunyone.
Gah I wish I could find that link again, but I thought I read they (at least the revival) would be around $250. And yeah that would make perfect sense, considering these are cheaper to manufacture (55nm), and also because they need to compete with Nvidia.
Well either way, it's gona be a fun November for us tech junkies that's for sure =D

I was just speculating prices (aka pulled out of ones a$$!! Lol). Don't have any true numbers from any site, but just a gut feeling. I would love to see a $200 2950 pro 256mb, $249 2950 pro 512mb, and a 2950 xt 512mb at $349! That would definately bring down the 8800 gts series real quick!!!!
I better see that this launch will be close to perfect. The 2900XT's debut was horrible because of crappy drivers from ATI. Now the true question is,will it launch on time? And is AMD going to lie about the performance, stay silent until the launch, or none (hopefully)? Well I'm gonna stick with my 8800GTS for awhile longer, I do hope ATI brings more competition than that god-awful debut of the 2900XT.
On the side note, I doubt the 8800GTX's prices will go down much, just take a look at the 7900GTX. It's still, what, 500bucks? I also doubt the 8800GTS prices will fall below $250 any time soon.

Especially if Nvidia's new cards are the 8800GT's ($199-$249).
The last I saw the 9 series was Q1 2008 yet.
If someone has any links stating the 9's are for Nov please post them.

With this good news I believe that its more likely that NVidia will release their so called 9800GTX.

yea it does seem more likely, however i doubt it will be within the next couple months because we should have heard something by now.. i am willing to bet the 9800 family will be out around January-March
Quote : The chip also features built-in HDMI, HDCP and 320 stream processors per GPU
If they're anything like nVidia's stream processors, even clocked at only 825 (as compared to nVidia's 1.35 Ghz on the GTX) it should be one kickass card. Oh yeah and 55nm (!) seems Moore's law is quite accelerated for GPUs

As far as I remember, Radeon 1800 XT(X) was released in January 2006, Radeon 1900 XT(X) in May or June 2006, Radeon 1900 Pro/GT and Radeon 1950 XTX somewhere around August or September 2006 and Radeon 1950 Pro in December 2006.
It's possible that nVIDIA will release some kind of Geforce 8900 against RV670.

Does anyone know if this card will have the video editing capabilities of the 2600/2400 chips. I know the 2900 was a powerhouse, but it didn't have the video playback/editing ffeatures of the weaker cards. It would be great to have both features on one chip for us nerds that use or PC for games and PVR. Anyone heard anything?

Redemption is almost upon AMD as the company can finally say that it has a new chip (the RV670) that is doing fine and will be released on time. November 19 is the date set for the official unveiling of the RV670-powered Radeon HD 2950 cards that will have to battle Nvidia's (November 12 released) G92s.
Production of the new chip is on schedule and it seems AMD is planning to start producing the initial batch of 1.5 million RV670s in the first week of November. The RV670 is a 55nm part that features 320 Stream Processors, a 256-bit memory bus, support for DirectX 10.1 plus, a working UVD, working Crossfire and support for PCI-Express 2.0.
The cards equipped by the RV670 have already been codenamed Gladiator and Revival and their specs will be:
- Gladiator: 825 MHz (GPU), 2400 MHz (memory), 514MB GDDR4
- Revival: 750 MHz (GPU), 1800 MHz (memory), 256/512MB GDDR3
The prices of the new cards are set to hover in and around the $199 and $249 marks.

YES!!!! Finally a decent mid level card under $249!!!!!
So this card will be perfect then? I think I'll buy two.
Seriously though, this may be the exact card I want, if the performance in games and video is up to par.
Is it possible that this card won't require a molex connector? I have 28A on the 12v rail (350W total) and I'm wondering if this card would possibly work without a new PSU.
you rock sirkillalot! I knew I'd seen them prices somewhere =D
If Nvidia doesn't lower prices or release new cards, I'll probably be picking up a gladiator myself =)
I wonder how well Crysis will play on these cards (gamebro starts to dream and drool)
hmm, should be interesting although rwayne, where are you getting this 9800 stuff from, i thought those were proven a myth months ago were they not? isn't there just going to be a 65nm 8700 or something like that?
any links? tbh i don't keep up with the rumour mill nowadays, i prefer concrete release info only.

G92 is 8800gt. G98 will be 8700gt I guess... itll be an entry level card taht seems to be the current rumour, 8800gt isnt really a rumour now though since there are pics of it... well name may change but the card wont.
RV670 was meant to be 1950 replacement I think but it'll likely beat the 2900xt. 2900pro arent really "proper" models just a way for ati to sell out its stock before it unleashes this card showing how utterly butterly rubbish its old ones were. lets face it whos guna buy a 2900xt/pro once the rv670 is out.
Fud keeps going on about a dual rv670 though.. I expect it will be released since the TDP of the card is so low, the ultimate high end system

8800GT 10/29/07? Only speculation maybe.

Not likely

This card requires 1 6 pin power connector. From what I've read it will most likely suffer with AA and AF on just like the x1950 pro's.

I don't think the Nvidia 9800 is a myth. I thought a saw an article on Tom's hardware that Nvidia shipped the new chips out to their suppliers in September.
I also read something that said that Nvidia was going to release their new flag ship cards every November.
I don't have any links right now to back up my claims, but If I can find some later tonight I will post them on this thread.
If Nvidia does not have a 9800 in the works for 4th quarter 2007 then ATI is going to make a strong gain in marketshare.
I will still be amazed if they actually release the HD 2950 Pro on schedule. AMD has not released anything on schedule for a long time.
Quote : I will still be amazed if they actually release the HD 2950 Pro on schedule. AMD has not released anything on schedule for a long time.
True, but you have to remember they were going through a merger and I'm sure that made it a lot harder to keep up with both Intel and Nvidia's. Now that they've had a year to settle I'm hoping they'll be able to hold true to or at least near their release date.
on a sidenote: if nVidia does have a 9800 in the works they're keeping it quite under wraps. whether or not this is any indication that they do have a chip in production, I don't know. All I can do is speculate. Looking forward to the benches though

Here is the article on the GeForce 9800:
http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inqu [...] flop-beast
Given it's from the Inquirer I wouldn't consider that article to be truthful or even honest. But hey, you never know. What I DO know, however, is that FINALLY we have DX10 mid-range cards that perform WELL. NVIDIA or ATi I don't give a hoot, just give me some cards that are within the $200 price range and perform decently.
I am excited about the HD 2950 Pro. This appears like it is going to be a very competitive card at a good price point.
I am an AMD / ATI fan boi and I really want to see AMD do well.
Far as gaming is concerned I think AMD offers really good products for a great price.
AMD 64x2 6000 for $169 on new egg? What a deal! A E6600 Core2Duo which performs around the same level is about $220 dollars. Yeah, you could over clock it but at the base price the 6000 64x2 is an excellent value.
The 2900s look good too.
I would love to get a HD 2950 Pro, however I already have a X1950GT and from a budget perspective I think it would make more sense for me to get a 2nd X1950GT card and crossfire it. It would save me about $100. But I got to admit that the HD2950Pro is very tempting. Hard for me to decide. What would you do?
