Hello,

I downgraded an HP Touchsmart IQ775 from Vista Home Premium to XP MCE. I knew there would be issues, and got most of them solved. The internal mini pci or pci-e (dont know) wireless card is based upon the Atheros 5007ug chipset, which from all indications is formerly the ZyDas ZD1211 chip.

I tried a driver for the ZyDas that was hacked and supposed to be generic for XP Atheros 5007ug. Edited the hardware code, it installed but would not detect a network.

I found another person who edited the hardware string so that a driver for an SMC USB 2.0 wireless card would load. Unfortunately, i have no idea what actual SMC card this driver is for. It was supposedly based upon the same chipset. It does load, it does work, no BSOD or anything like that. Good deal. :)

However, there is a strange deal. The card never ceases receiving packets. The wireless is always busy, slowing things down. I mean walk away and the light stays on for hours, keeping the computer awake. Come back and TX packets like 5,000 - RCVD packets 4,500,000.

I'm not talking about some legitimate requests from the computer. I have installed a Netgear dongle adapter and it works fine and stops receiving. It is not some TSR program for live updates or anything. It just never stops receiving.

Of course it did not do this in Vista. Surely it is related to the bastardized driver. The original thing is called the HP USB2.0 Wireless device.

Am i perhaps just overlooking some setting i could change to get it to stop receiving?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

PS - forgot to mention the Router is Netgear 624 - but like i said, this thing did not happen with the same hardware while utilizing the Vista driver for the Atheros based wireless card.

Cheers!
