hi, i'm alex from new zealand.

i'm not sure if i'm in the right place. anyway i am looking at buying a new computer on an internet auction but doubt i can learn all i need to know within the four days before it closes! i'll continue reading but anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.

my computer will mainly be used for gaming. oblivion, first person shooters and starcraft 2 when it is realeased!

anyway i'll get to the specs.

Intel E6320 Core2Duo LGA775 1.86GHz 4MB L2, 1066FSB note this is the 4MB, not the 2MB
ASUS P5B-E LGA775 Pentium D/PentiumEE/65nm dual-core/Core2Duo, Intel P965/ICH8R
Transcend DDR2-800 1G (hynix), 240-Pin, CL5, 16 chips (Lifetime warranty)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 160G SATA2 3GB/s NCQ 8M Cache (3 years warranty)
Thermaltake ST/560W ATX/B/PFC/2 Fan/A
ASUS TA581 Black Mid Tower front USB2.0, Audio, 1 x 80mm fan.
eVGA 8800 GTS 640MB (PCI-E of course)

all i know is that the E6320 is a lower end model of core 2 duo, but i think it should be fast enough for me.

the video card is definately fast enough.

do you think i need more RAM? is transcend RAM good?

also i'm really confused as to what motherboard it has, so if anyone could explain that i'd appreciate it.

sorry for being such a newbiee, but any help would be appreciated,

alex

The motherboard the machine has is ASUS P5B-E. It's using P965 northbridge and ICH8R southbridge. It supports Raid 0,1,5.

The Transcend DDR2800 1GB seems outdated because its memory density is 64mb and double sided. Nowdays, most DDR2 are 128mb density. But no need to worry, it's not very important. But i suggest you getting 1more GB of ram to run the sticks in dual channel. I heard the game Oblivion runs much better with 2GB of memory than 1GB.

If you want more descent description of the motherboard, go to Asus's website and download a manual for P5B E. It will explain everything that you need to know about the motherboard.

I'm not too sure about it, based off of Gamespot's old test. Still, getting two doesn't hurt and should help load times considerably.

That's what The Dev's for the game say.
