I got a new laptop recently, a Gateway CX210X Convertible Notebook. It has a Seagate Momentus 7200.1 SATA 1.5Gb/s 100-GB Hard Drive. The drive is sealed in its compartment, thus it has no fan cooling. The area around the drive gets warm, and the sensor on the drive reads 45-46 C. This isn't super high, but will running at this temp hurt/shorten the life of the drive? Seagate's website for the drive (Momentus 7200.1) says the max case temp is 65 C. I am far from that, but is 45-50C cause for concern? Thanks in advance, I just don't want this comp to die on me in College next year. It is an awesome computer.

I would say no. Google also release information about their HD experience that seemed to indicate that heat was not a significant reason for failure.

I have a Seagate 7200.7 that has been in use for 6753 hours so far around 50C and I have had no trouble, so I would generally agree that you shouldn't worry about temp.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure. I have a three year warranty on it, so financially I am safe, but it would be a pain if it died on me in school. Does anyone know if holding the laptop/drive at an angle reduces drive life? It is a tablet, so I often hold it at an angle while writing .
