I have operated a wireless g network in the house for some time using a Microsoft MN700 router secured with WEP. I have 1 XP PC, a Ubuntu PC, and a Laptop which have all been happily using it.

I tried to change the security to WPA but the signal strength dropped so much it would not reach the Ubuntu PC on my top floor (router is in the basement in a 3 story house).

So when the sales came along this year I picked up a Belkin G Plus router and configured this as a new WPA network (say SSID "network 1" ). I plugged the main ethernet port of the old MN400 into one of the standard ports of the Belkin and configured it as an Mixed B/G Access Point with and SSID of "network 2" and secured it with WEP. This is just for the kids PSPs and the Ubuntu machine on the 3rd floor and doesn't have sensitive traffic.

Everything works fine in the new set-up except I can't route to my ISP's nntp (news) server on "network 2". Works fine on the new network. Tracert to the news server address seems to stop at the MN400. No problems with email or web protocols. News used to work fine on my original MN400 config.

Oh and just for completeness the connection to the internet is via a D-Link VOIP router and then a Cable Modem.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
