List of "Best" System Configs? [Reliable & Fast]

Is there any list of System Builds that several users have built and are known to run very well?

Would be REALLY nice to have a list/db eventually with benchmarks and average price too.

there you could also have builds such as the overclocker budget build(s) that are sometimes posted around here too, just too bad no sticky/ other easy way to find em ....

There are systems that will run very well at any price, and systems that will run poorly at any price. It's a question of careful component selection, not necessarily budget available.

To list those that work would be an endless task.....there are an infinite number of combinations that could work well, depending on budget, usage, and so on. Impossible to complete. And by the time the list would be done, new tech would be out.

A very, VERY quick basic list that's guaranteed to "work"?? Here ya go:

-Case with good ventilation, style to suit your tastes
-Core2Duo 4300/6320/6600
-Gigabyte 965P-DS3 motherboard. Hands down, is among Top 3 in any category or comparison.
-2 x 1gig DDR2-667 or 800....pick any. G.Skill for cheap is a winner.
-Aftermarket heatsink if you want to overclock high. Arctic Cooling, Big Typhoon, Noctua, Ultra 120, Zalman 9700 are winners in various prices
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 hard drive, whatever size you like.
-FSP, Enermax, OCZ, Seasonic, Corsair power supply......all are good, various price ranges
-Sony, LG, or Samsung DVD/RW
-7600GT, 7900GS, X1950Pro, X1950XT, 8800GTS 320, 8800GTX graphics card......all excellent for various budgets

That's about it really. Just pick the parts that suit your budget. Honestly, any of those combinations will work together admirably. Can't go wrong.

this is all entirely true, yet especially since systems can be so diverse, the problems that arise with certain combinations are often unexpected and could be avoided.

I for one used a Gigabyte 965P-S3 (Rev 1.0) and have had a great deal of problems with the onboard sound and the harddisk controller(s).

Then again others might have no problems at all simply since they didn't use the onboard sound and/or used a raid controller/different HD controller and think the board is great.

Rating COMBINATIONS and seeing which ones are KNOWN to work well would be great imho.

you may include in your list the AMD CPUs \mobos they also are guaranteed to work not to speak about price...not the sound of fanboism just completing ..

to make things clear
CPU
this chip can compete with coreduoe4300 but is cheaper,sure you can oc e4300 to high heaven but in terms of stock frequncy are about the same
