I am new to PPC-2003. I am trying to write an application on PPC-2003 which
will capture realtime video using a camera and then either store it as a file
or stream it to some remote client.

So, I want to know are there any generic APIs available on the PPC platform
for in the first place to even capture and record realtime video.

I *believe* though I am not certain that a subset of DirectShow is
supported on PPCs.

I have NO development experience of the PPC so I've never looked into
this. However, that is where I'd start. If you need some signposting then
let me know and I'll see what I can find out.

Programming CF/SDIO/built-in imaging devices on the
PPC seems to be device specific-i.e. your program, when it's finished,
will only work for the device you wrote it for.

A SDK for the LifeView CF/SD cams is here:

http://www.lifeview.com.tw/html/pr [...] sd_sdk.htm

perhaps you can learn something from it.

Iain,

Thanks for your reply, I would really appreciate if you could provide some
signposts where I can start from.

Hi V. Green,

If I have understood your explaination correctly, then it means that there
are no generic APIs that PPC-2003 provides for all cameras.

Instead developers need to get the APIs compatible to PPC-2003 from the
specific vendor.

Am, I right in my understanding ?

OK. I found this

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ [...] erview.asp
and
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ [...] ctshow.asp

and

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/ [...] erview.asp
for simple .NET support (DOTNET and DirectShow are not best friends - DOT
net and real time stuff isn't very compatible, but there is some basic
support).

I'm assuming that Pockect PCs are Windows CE by the way - like all MS
products you quickly loose track of the names they give as the names seem
to evolve quicker than the technology!
