Hey guys I need some advice,

My step-dad wants me to put together a new computer for his new dairy (yeah, moo moo lots of cows). I have always been a fan of putting my own stuff together, but since price isn't really that much of a concern I'm wondering if I should just order one from DELL. If not, do you guys have any recommendations on what a durable, reliable, somewhat dirt and employee resistant components I should go with?

If you want pre-built ultra durable work machine (not a gaming machine, but a business machine) that is portable, can take a beating, will handle water being spilled on it, as well as general dirt and grit, check out the Panasonic ToughBook or the Itronix GoBook.

We use these at work and they take a beating..might fit the bill if your Step-Dad wants to have something he can take between the barn, the house, and into the truck for a ride to the auction house. If he wants something that will sit on a counter/desktop, then these aren't the way to go.

Just offering up alternatives to the everyday vanilla computer.

Good luck!

Hmmm go with a Gateway computer....I think those are the ones with the cows in their commericals.

What will be the primary applications on this computer?

You can just get a low-end Dell, and put plastic covers on it like you see in an auto garage.

It will mainly be used for record-keeping, data- entry type stuff. Of course I want it to last for as long as possible so I was thinking about spending about $1000.

Where is the graphics card?
MOst of the parts are more than the rig needs. You can balance it out and still get all you need for $800
