My problem is that when I run Windows Update, I am notified that some updates failed. Further, after the update process completes and Windows is restarted, my system either reboots itself continuously or hangs trying to complete stage 3 of the update process. Microsoft support has me run Computer Repair from the Vista installation DVD and then delete a couple of registry settings once I am able to get into the OS.

While my DVD includes SP1, there are many updates beyond the first service pack which thrash my system when I install them.

I am running ULT 64 on a E8400/Gig GA-EP45-UD3P MB w/8GB DOM 1066 RAM; not overclocking. Have 4 WD VelociRator drives in a RAID 5 using the onboard ICH10R w/64 driver. Also using single Sapphire 4870 video w/64 driver.

The system runs and performs great - as long as I don't run Windows update.

Anyone have an idea what is going on or how I can further troubleshoot?

Thanks
