I just got a PocketPC iPAQ HX4705 running Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
The PocketPC has a button on it that, when pressed, starts sound
recording, producint *.wav files (not good, files way too big). I
looked anywhere but can't find the program that does the recording.
Questions:

- Does someone know where this sound recording software is in the
Windows Mobile file system, or how to find it? (I have both Resco File
Explorer and VM Net Browser that I could use to search, if they had a
"search" function).

- Do you know any MP3 recording Software for PocketPC, Windows Mobile?
If so, could you point me to it?

Thanks,
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

Before trotting off on software searches, have you changed the recording
format on your hx4705 to the smallest format? Most P/PCs can go down to
8,000Hz, 8-Bit Mono recording which is about 8KB/s.

If you haven't done this or don't know how to change it, go to
Start>Settings>Input>Options and use the pull down menu to change the
quality of the recording - thus the size - there.

Regards,

Thanks for the info about turning that bit rate down.

However, thinking more about this, WAV format just doesn't cut it
anymore. With MP3 I expect to get an average compression of at least a
factor 10 for similar sound quality. (And MP3 players to put the
pocket are ubiquitous and inexpensive.)
