Microsoft has stepped up its effort to promote its Vista operating system, but Windows XP just isn’t going away. The company reportedly extended the OEM downgrade timeline once again: As of now, system builders can still offer Windows XP downgrades to their customers and will be able to do so until Vista’s second birthday.

good news for all those Vista haters

Xp works, plain and simple.
Vista is a hog that requires HW updates, and adds nothing except DX 10.

I wouldn't go as far as branding myself a Vista hater, but I certainly preferred XP while I had it. Vista just made too much of a fuss over too many trivial activities and I got tired of it. I'm sure the XP users will appreciate the extra time given to it. It's been a very good operating system down the years and will certainly be remember in higher esteem than Vista!

I've recently switched over to Mac though and couldn't be happier with my decision.

yes it's a really greast OS, beside whats MSFT got to put on those low cost(i.e. little computing power, min graphics, low Mem, small HDD) laptops for the OLPC crowd, MSFT couldn't let LINUX control a whole segment of computer users

XP will continue to be supported until 2014; regardless of when MS decides to halt shipments. So you can "use" XP for as long as you like... you just won't be able to get it with new computers until the end of time. People are still using 95 or 98 for pete's sake. Every single statement made against Vista was also aimed at XP upon it's release... not to mention the huge fuss over SP2 when it was initially released.

You'll forgive me if I say "I've heard it before", because I have. It didn't stop me from upgrading to XP and it didn't stop me from upgrading to Vista. It certainly won't stop me from upgrading to Windows 7, either... because we all know that people will be very anxious to criticize it once it's finally released. It truly amazes me just how short a lot of memories are out there.

Honestly, I've used both Operating Systems and I feel a lot more satisfaction from Windows XP.

Vista just doesn't cut it for me, there are too many useless features, such as the whole GUI.

The only benefit I can see with Vista is DX10.

Then you'll likely find every version of Windows from Vista onward having too many "useless features". Windows 7 will be very similar... and I don't see future versions of Windows stripping down anything... only adding.

My point... someone will always find something to complain about. Just like the 98ers that didn't want to let go... we now have the XPers (a lot of which used to be 98ers... hmmmmm) not wanting to let go.

Eventually, you will be assimilated.
