Hi all
I'd like to get your opinions on Vista Basic 64bit before i buy please, i'm getting a new system very soon and require a 64 OS. Last i heard on Vista 64 it was abit of a nightmare, hows progress been? Hopefully they've dotted their i's and crossed their t's a little better by now, opinions would be great asap as i'm thinking of purchasing very soon.
Also if anyone has used a ati 4870 with v64 could you share a little thought on how the drivers etc are performing?
Thank you, Jet.

Wiki is quick to point out the following.

An important feature of the Vista 64 editions is their much improved performance over 32 bits versions and they can also significantly outperform the most used 32 bit Windows XP version

You mean the Freddie Kruger version? Yeah, there is definately a Vista Biatch lurking out there. Watch out for the Vista Biatch, she may show up right here before your eyes in this thread. VISTA 64 is equipped to run any 32 bit software just like your current 32 bit OS will. The only problem you are likely to incur is old hardware with poor, bad drivers to begin with and/or hardware with no Vista drivers available. Company's fault.

Umm...well I've used Vista for more than two years, since Beta 1. I have no problem whatsoever with Vista 64. I have 3 machines running perfectly now. The 'i's and t's have grown into full blown tit's by now. Vista 64 systems are offered by major system builders like DELL nowdays. At places like Best Buy.

Fine. AMD/ATI Vista drivers have been well ahead of Nvidia's releases so far. ATI's Vista 64 drivers work very well as they should. After two years of producing them, ATI has done a very good job. No problem, speaking from the experience I have had running two 3870's in CF for a long while and with many different versions of ATI's Vista 64 drivers.

EDIT: If you have any further questions regarding the compotence of Vista 64, please reply with them before 7 PM. That's when the Escort Service usually arrives. Vista 64 is a chick magnet, I forgot to mention that fact earlier.

Vista 64 for well over a year. Works great. Runs my stuff just fine.

4870X2 in there currently. Works Great. Runs my stuff just fine. HOT when you have the fans set on auto. Noisy when you manually turn them up.

Damn... I *knew* those 'Ultimate Extras' would be worth it some day! :D
