ugh . . the new Microsoft ads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uz6amk3P-hY

The first one with Seinfeld showed up last night. I had high hopes they had something for the Mac vs. the PC ads but I must say I thought this effort was WEAK. The Apple boys must be laughing their a$$ off right about now.

It looks like it might be the first in a series, if so maybe they are just setting a tone with this one, maybe the others will get more specific.

I don't get it?

Thats a Windows Vista commercial?

Thats assuming a lot, I know Bill Gates is popular to some, but theres people that don't have a clue as to who he even is.

I guess I was hoping for a Mac smashing session, after all those numerous Mac attack commercials, Oh Well!

Well, the first few times I saw it, I was wondering wth? Then I saw it 3-4th time and I think I get it.

1) Quality shoes at discount prices, why pay more. =
Windows is as good as Mac, why pay more for a Mac?

2) Bill says the shoes are too tight, but the salesman says they will strecth. Jerry asks if he's sure. =
Mac OS is closed and inflexible, lacks support of hardware/software available to windows, but the Mac salespeople don't ever tell you that.

3)They simulate usage to see if they stretch. Jerry makes an unfunny joke about wearing clothes in the shower.

Bill tries the shoes on and they still don't fit. Jerry tells the guy he needs a bigger size shoe. Bill tries the new size on and they fit. =

They tried to use Mac and it just doesn't fit. They upgraded to Windows and it's a '10.'

4) I'm not quite sure what the member card thing stands for.

5) Soft, moist, chewy computers are the future. = Vista. (Meh)

It may be a stretch, but that's what I think it stands for. If I'm right its still pretty stupid as the average person will have no clue wtf they are talking about. At least the Mac adds are to the point. You can't change someone's mind if they have no clue wth you are talking about.

I'm not a fanboy of either Windows or Mac. Both have problems, both have uses.

Interesting Mike. I thought there was probably some rather subtle messages in there along the lines of what you said. The joke about the shower - do you think it was intentionally unfunny?

I have a theory about the mugshot - street cred?

i thought they were just humanizing microsoft a bit. it felt like a clip from Seinfeld, a very popular TV show in the 90's.

but i like your analysis.

It was all very funny, until the ast couple of lines about the cake.

I personaly thought it was the funniest ad iv seen in a while. Does any1 british agree with me?

I think the commercial looked a little low budget. They should have had some special effects or something. Watching Bill shake his booty was sort of sickning!

That's pretty much what I got out of it too...a lot better than the lame Mac v PC commercials.
Seinfeld sucked in the commercial, btw, but I guess when you're more successful than the rest of the industry combined, you can afford to hire real actors; instead of a couple shlubs off the street.

Someone wake me up when Linux comes out with a commercial...

i haven't watched the microsoft commercial yet...

but i can tell you that i loathe the mac commercials.

I just think they're idiotic. the basic concept is bashing vista and offering mac as an alternative.

And it all boils down to this : Most people that have been happily using windows and suddenly have found themselves unable to adapt to vista are surely not going to have an easier time transitioning to a mac... same goes for linux distos. how can you suggest that a person move to a completely unknown OS when they can't seem to function with vista which is no huge leap away from the functionallity of windows 2000 - xp?

I admit i've had a problem w\ vista and 64 bit raid drivers... but then again, goto xp and wtf is a floppy drive?

I was expecting microsofts answer to the mac ads to be in the form of legal action for openly flaming their product with misleading information. most vista problems are posed by oems installing it on weak systems - ie: celerons w\ 512 ram... thats why your laptop cost $299 !!!

http://www.mojaveexperiment.com

Check this out... they survey people about vista... then they have them try out a NEW OS they will be coming out with post vista. Everybody likes this OS that they have them try and rate it twice as high as they rated vista beforehand..

problem ? it is vista ! lol. "i don't like vista. I've never used it, but i hear it has all sorts of "problems with it" especially when i try to plug in my third party peripherals that are 15 years old and haven't had a driver update since 1995."

Oh! I love this !!! 'its vista' OMFG! yeah its good stuff !
